I’ve searched an read that some degreasers (including oven cleaners) have various affects on aluminum…

I’m wondering who here has vast knowledge of these reactions and how to avoid or use degreasers to clean safely or purposely oxidize aluminum parts.

FWIW I used cheap oven cleaner in the past on engine bays until I burned the **** out of myself with splash back. Ugh

Mineral spirits, carb cleaner, brake cleaner, acetone, lacquer thinner, are all safe for aluminum.

    Anything caustic, no.

Anything caustic should be rinsed fast and neutralized. Some products have warnings on the label about exposure to aluminum.

Was actually wondering about this because I wanted to clean up the aluminum heads that came with the Ford flathead I recently purchased.
