My O2C....... Did you ever get into powder coating? we've touched on that before..... I'de crank it up to 450-500, and let it bake some. That is if you've got an oven....(discussed).
If your household oven can kill baked on, splattered on, **** flying everywhere, and just leave "dust" to wipe away, i'de think it would be feasible......
BUT- sometimes, different measures call for different actions......
So- Comes down to cost in the cheapy world....= Grab a curb side oven(electric). people toss them out daily for a gas unit. You'll need a 220 circuit. Now= you can bake crud, powdercoat at will, and throw some popcorn on the burners while your waiting for things to "cure". Actually have done that! Why pay someone for services/your time, when you can score for pennies, and have a multi use tool! Start scrounging!

No, you were correct. I was going doing the baking in a flea market oven. Throw some casters on it , add a long cord and roll it outside. Then I started reading about the hot tanks and went down that rabbit trail.

Step up & spend the money. Do the job right.
Get the parts baked at an automotive machine shop.

For small parts I’ve had great luck with a crock pot full of pinesol. No reason it wouldn’t work on a bigger scale.

It's not a matter of spending the money. It's being able to mul***ask, I have a ton of small parts that would need cleaning. Having a hot tank at the house would help tremendously.
Real caustic vats are virtually like unicorns now. Everyone has a jet washer, but they don't work unless it's for a new aluminum production engine, which a 62 Cadillac is not. I am not saying an oven wouldn't work, but for stamped steel parts, I wouldn't think they would keep their shape very well. Depends on the temperature I suppose.

  9. The man said the gunk was a 1/2 " thick . I can't imagine any water based cleaner that would work with just soaking..Maybe if it came out of a pressure washer.
I don't think anyone mentioned soaking them in kerosene or heating fuel, which of course is oil based. Maybe figure out how to agitate the container after a few days.

I have s****ed the majority of the loose stuff. It would be nice to drop in a few parts while I do other stuff. That way, when I finally get around to taking it to the machine shop, I don't have to wear a full body tyvek suit.

The shop I use happens to be a couple of friends of mine, they have many options for cleaning, jet washer, hot tank, sonic tank for aluminum and even a tumbler, everything thay do comes out free of old paint and grease.
