When I was a kid, I lived down the street from the Del Rio bro's shop. I remember on the side of the shop they had a sick painting of a dragster. In the 80's a window tint company moved in & they painted over it. Dose anyone here have a picture of it?
@1badnov - I can't help you out with a pic of the painting on the side of their shop ... but here's a few pics of their famous Drag Roadster: - @HEMI32
I remember those paintings , I all ways wondered if Tony Del Rio painted them or did a sign shop may be his brother Wayne is a hamber if so he may respond........Tell Lennie that my kid is all ready tearing the Anglia apart trying to fix the crap that the last guy did. and the diaper bag is gone.........
I will tell Len. He detached his retina in his left eye again. So the "New" Anglia is back on hold. Can't wait to see what your son has in-store. Someone here has to have a picture........... This is the H.A.M.B. Don't tell me I came up with something that nobody has a picture of.
you talking about on east 14th in San Leandro or am I thinking of someone else. seems they had a willys in the 70's.
Tony did have a 1933 Willys sedan with a small block that I think he did put a blower on it after a while......
The Del Rio's had a shop on Meekland Ave. too in Hayward, Ca. Down the street from the old Vic Hubbards.
In 1968, (Tony & Wayne) Del Rio and (Elwyn) Carlson campaigned this '33 Willys Coupe with a big block: ... and by 1970 they had added a blower: at Orange County International Raceway circa '70
I'm pretty sure that Wayne Del Rio still owns it ... and according to plywude, Wayne is a HAMBer ... so hopefully he will chime in with some info on the current status of the Roadster ... as well as the low-down on the painting of the dragster on the side of their East 14th Street shop.
Went to High School, Hayward, with all of the Del Rio's. Tony was 2-3 years ahead of me. My friend Carl Hovey used to do his striping. Reggie Jackson used to hang out there, and Carl sold him his 32 2 door, that got burnt up in the fire. but I don't know who did the mural.
wayne n i still own the roadster its prettier and faster then ever . that picture on the side of tonys shop was painted by a guy we called rembrant
hey everyone checkout phils web site at suprememetaltradeworks this guy is the best he did all our work on our A.M.B.R. 1971 ROADSTER at the G.N.R.S. oakland and he is still doing some really great work . THANKS AGAIN PHIL no one makes a car shine like you do .
I saw the '33 Willys in a garage outside of Lodi a few months ago. It's painted black, well taken care of and runs like stink...
no it will take a little more then that to own the ROADSTER this car has so much history there is no other race or show car like it ...
the willys had a big block injected then blown but it was always a dog tony never ran good intill he hooked up with wayne .
I remember I got Wayne to bring the Roadster out at a couple of Car shows I put on in Fremont in the 90's.He came into Comet auto in Hayward quite often when I worked there.
