Who shaves/trues tires in NC? Discussion in 'The Hokey**** Message Board' started by rockable, Dec 29, 2022. Hey KR, I am a true believer in shaving those tires for old hot rods. We had our 58 Impala's original tires and two sets shaved and they were never wobbly or shaking at speeds when racing or road trips. In the 65 El Camino, the same young guy got a little older and now owned his own business. He was still the expert on all things suspension, tires and alignment/balance. We took that El Camino to him with various tires for 125k miles prior to selling it after 12 years. The owner also did a miraculous job of getting our 327 powered 40 Ford Sedan Delivery fixed and repaired. He re-did the whole front end and balanced/trued the tires for an excellent ride. It took a while, but it was well worth the effort. When I asked the question about tire shaving, one of the answers on a google search came up with an old HAMB thread. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/who-shaves-trues-tires-in-nc.1282119/ Jnaki Hope you do your search, but first read the HAMB thread. but, the results from the google search provided many locations.. Do you mean they are not round or that they have high shoulders and not flat across the contact patch? My TC slicks were/are perfectly round but they did have high shoulders on the edges, then a low spot and normal in the center. I bolted them to my 442 and corrected that with the linelocs.
