Isnt it possible for the sellers to delete "for sale" ads. Its pretty timeconsuming to go trough umphteen cars that is no longer available. Asking for a friend.

Not sure if the OP can delete it, but they can edit the title and ad as “”sold”.

Yup, Ryan likes to keep historic ads for reference. surely if you just check the for sale ads daily you would see nothing but current for sale cars typically....

Realizing that a lot of "simple" appearing changes require a lot of unsimple work behind the scenes, would it be possible to add a box, for the OP only, to check and move the add to a sold column. I'm thinking similar to the edit or delete choices given to people who post on threads, but the only choice would be to move the ad to sold.

all the Op would have to do is select edit thread and add the word sold to the title. some already do it....

Usually in my experience the first few pages are reposts, no? So you know they're not sold.

I don't like to delete old ads... Historically, they give a good idea of value.

can we make this a policy here? no more deleting sold ads and simply putting the word sold in the title? @Rocky @Royalshifter

  11. Unfortunately, this isn't a HAMB only problem. Offerup, FB Marketplace, Craigslist... etc, are all chock full of stuff that has been sold but still listed for sale.

It can be maddening. I get it. Especially, if you've been surfing for specific parts for months on end, finally make contact with someone, only to find out the part is sold.

Sad thing is, (in my experience) you're always greeted with a snide, snippy tone like you're supposed to read minds or something.

Sadly, you can forget any change to the status quo. You can't get half of these morons to use their turn signal, let alone actually getting off thier duff long enough to mark something "sold". Because everything inconvenient now-a-days is soooo hard.

In the end, its an "out of sight, out of mind." type deal.

HOWEVER, all of this makes actually finding the part or car you're looking for more delicious in the end. Like you've paid your dues to get where you need to be or something. I dunno.

You get kind of a sense of accomplishment. And when you finally do find what you're looking for, sometimes you get a better deal in the end.

Its all part of it. Its the hunt. It sucks sometimes, but when you look back, it was worth it.

TLDR: So, you have to dig through a ton of ads? Big whoop. It's all part of the fun.

You gotta remember, none of the good parts at the swap meet are right by the front gate. ;)

All we would have to do as Mods would be that when the OP reports their sold ad and requests a delete is to edit the title, add the word sold in capital letters and lock the thread so the op could not bump. the ad would fall . the title would say sold, I think it would be beneficial for parts ads also. these could be valuable tools for if nothing else identifying parts....

  13. I'm pickin up what you're steppin in. I'll leave the ads and mark them "sold" from now on.

Seeing what something sold for 10 years ago is sometimes fun, but more than likely, depressing. Inflation and the lowering of the buying power of a dollar over time is nothing we can control, but seeing old prices doesn’t give you an idea of what something is worth now unless you run the figures through one of those calculators that give you the current value, who has time to do that? I guess it’s good for nostalgia to see a Deuce sold for $10,000 about 20 years ago and wish you could find one that cheap now. Any prices over a year old, heck, over six months old are old news and are probably not in line with the then current changing market. Yesterday’s weather forecast won’t tell you what’s going on today.

I know it's the sellers choice if they leave the price on the item after it's sold, but it's also a good tool to help determine what something is worth down the road.

    Calculator?
    Mmmm No.

What hasn’t changed, nor will ever change is anything for sale is worth what the seller is willing to sell it for, and what the buyer is willing to buy it for.

That day, that moment in time.

From the first car ever made a long time ago to today….

Thanks to everyone that makes the classified sections work! I like to mark listings SOLD, and remove any bumps I may have added. I need to check to be sure but I think the prices get removed automatically once SOLD is added. I do wish the old listing from two years ago could be removed from the top on my "Conversations" list. 19. I know this isn't a fix for folks not marking their stuff sold, but...

For those of you who aren't very forum or internet savvy, there is a simple "one click" solution for seeing ONLY "For Sale" ads, AS they are posted.

It works like a personal news feed, delivered straight to your email. Let me tell you, it keeps me from climbing the walls sometimes and saves a lot of time that I would have normally spent surfing the classifieds.

It also works for every single forum on the HAMB.

When you open a forum (in this example, the "parts for sale" forum), simply click "Watch Forum" under the "POST NEW THREAD" button.

Then, when the window opens, click the circle that says "New Threads", then, all the way at the bottom, click the box that says "Emails"...

Now, anytime someone posts a new ad (or post to whatever forum you're watching), you'll get an email.

New posts to the forum you're watching will also appear when you click your "News Feed" tab.

I know it's probably useless information, but if it helps some of you guys, enjoy.

  20. ....Yeah, but an ad that is 10 or 20 years old is going to be so far down the pages, why would anyone care to even look for it!....I guess we agree, I think.

Ever post a reply to a thread then have some reply to you saying the thread was 17 years old? Just wondering if I'm alone on that deal.

I used the 10-20 years as an extreme example, but something from a year ago might be just as out of date. Using old ads to get pricing info might get you in the ballpark on an item, but could just as well make you leave money on the table. I can see maybe a year or two, but anything longer than that is just history.
I think we agree too, Don.

Most of the ads marked SOLD have the price edited out. The price is generally removed and replaced with the word sold

Yeah. What I was saying went along with what Ryan had said before. Gives you an idea over time. I went back and found the post, was gonna post it on this one, but it wouldn't make any difference.
