Demon Carbs....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by OneFineComet, Dec 29, 2010.

  1. Anyone running them? I wanna get one for my dads Buick but i wanna get a few opinions on them. What do you think?

  2. I tried a 650 Road Demon, it always ran fat no matter what I did, even after consulting BARRY GRANTS tech line. I gave it to my buddy and replaced it with an AFB.The car runs good now. Mitch.

I have 2 of those... One is a BG "Gold Claw" with the red venturie sleeves and the other a "Speed Demon" 750. Both are double pumpers...

BG'S stuff is good to plant flowers in ive got about 5k worth of his crap for my comp car and 2 years of sending it back and forth to fix it.
I got 2 1050 holleys out of the box ran 2 tenths faster then any of his crap and no more smashed oil pans and bent wheels from the car crashing down from a wheel stand when the thing bogged so bad it almost shut off at 9,000 rpm.

nope i dont know how to tune carbs, i just wish i could find someone here who knows how to work on a demon, when they look at it they say i just dont know? i tell them its just a little fancier than a holley, but its pretty much the same thing.

Your right! everything's the same as a Holley! You can tune those puppies for mileage or performance or a little of both.. I never had had a problem with the 2 I own.. I even played around with different venturie boosters on the "Gold Claw" carb by bolting on the annular boosters to get better low end torque of the line.. Damn near pulled the front wheels off the ground.. :D

ive been told accelerator pump, hesitation when i step on it, i have had it backfire when i mashed it on a green light! ive taken it to a few people, and they say they have never touched one. i just need to find a demon guy on the left coast, ive asked here, but i dont want to take it to a dyno shop or a high end race shop. its just for a weekend driver.

Your probably getting a lean pump shot and needs to be a couple steps richer.. The primary power valve needs to be checked also...

Do you have a vacuum gauge??? If not, go too Sears and buy one! They're not that expensive.. They come in handy for when your adjusting the idle mixture..

i looked up on bg web sight and it says to:
Stumbles under light acceleration A) Open mixture screws
    B) Readjust butterfly positions
    C) Raise float level

Stumbles under hard acceleration A) Readjust butterfly position
    B) Increase squirter size

i have both these problems. wtf?
not too bad under light acceleration

Does your carb have a choke plate?? If it does, it's going to be a pain the ass to change.. My speed demon is the older model.. It never came with one.

I'm sure one of those guys has a vacuum gauge that they could use to fine tune your carb... If you were here, I'd have it done in about 5 minutes..

Alot of BAD press here for a really good carburetor. I've only had one of them on a street engine. It was a 750 vac secondary Race Demon. Absolutely NO PROBLEMS. Ran great, no bog, no load on the idle circuit, nothing bad.

Stealth Racing Carburetors in Cleveland, Tn. tuned it to my engine out of the box. Ran great from day one.

It was on a Boss 351 Cleveland Ford with big valves, ported dual plane, and a Holman Moody cam. 10.5 compression flat tops with MSD ignition.

I have one on my 289 mustang, I like it alot it works well, It needs to be rejetted as it's a bit rich, it was on the motor when I got it I'm sure it was outta the box and on the car. But all in all It start up perfectly every time, hot or cold, idles well and drives well, just bogs a little at wot

I would not buy another one. I have a 650 or thereabouts Road Demon I was trying to use on a 330 crate motor - just barely meets their cam duration specs. New carb on new engine - completely flooded the motor twice trying to start it - really pissed me off. Sent back - they fixed a problem in the secondary system. Put on the motor again (which was finally started with an old reliable Holley) - but couldn't get tuned right - always rich. Finally put it on the shelf and went back to the Holley. Eventually used it on a very mild SBC, and it seems to work OK. But not worth the hassle - there are plenty of good carbs on the market! I have had really good lock with Edelbrock recently - run great right out of the box.

    Step one.
    Remove carb

    Step 2.
Drive over to Dave Lange w/ your motor specs & drop off carb. He will do his magic.

    Step 3.
    Install carb & drive.

  30. my son had a street demon on his Hemi A, I'm no expert but never could get it dialed in. switched to a Edelbrock and never had to touch it again
