Demon Carburetor

I recently purchased a Demon 98 carb and read in the instructions that one should advance the initial ignition timing about 4* and take out about 4* out of the total advance after that.

I am curious what a Demon carb does differently that warrants a timing change.

That is pretty generic advice but is broadly applicable to many pre-computer USA carbs, and will generally give you a boost in response and power that you can really feel.
I suspect that a great many carb changes do not give much in result unless engine was severely undercarbed, and many engines will lose responsiveness in normal driving ranges with significantly bigger carbs...Demon is just boosting the odds that you will be pleased.

 

A LOT more goes into determining optimum ignition advance than just carb size and carb calibration. If ignition timing was already ideal, changing the carb wouldn't warrant that kind of timing change unless you were going to a MUCH smaller carb.
