Dennis grew up on a small family farm in northwestern Illinois. He started tinkering with cars early on and purchased his first, a '59 T-Bird, at age 15. He also played guitar and trumpet in a variety of rock, folk and school bands.
Upon graduation from high school, he went to North Central College in Naperville, Illinois where he majored in both chemistry and physics. His undergraduate research in quantum physics received an American Chemical Society award. He continued his automotive interest and, through the course of his college years, owned a number of muscle and sports cars. He also kept up his music, playing in local coffee houses. After receiving his degree, Dennis took up the pedal steel guitar and started playing in country-rock bands in the Chicago area. He has opened for acts such as Charlie Daniels, Waylon Jennings and Dr. Hook. However, after two years, Dennis decided to retire from the music scene and go to graduate school.
He attended the University of Idaho, from which he received a Ph.D. in chemistry. While there, Dennis became an avid climber and winter mountaineer. He also finally married his high school sweetheart, Ellen.
Dennis accepted position as a product development scientist at The Procter & Gamble Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. There he either worked on, or created, most of P&G's food products in the 80's, including Pringles, with which he bears a striking resemblance to the handlebar mustachioed character on the can. Dennis holds a number of patents on P&G products. Once again having some disposable income, Dennis got back to playing with classic cars. This is also where he and Ellen had their three children.
After 10 years at P&G, Dennis took a position as Director of Product Development at a Bristol-Myers Squibb company in Evansville, Indiana where he led the development of Boost Nutritional Energy Drink, among other products. This is where he met Brad Kimmel, founder of Bradley David Productions, Inc. and creator of My Classic Car.
While Dennis had no formal training in television, he had a good knowledge of classic cars, an outgoing personality and a memorable mustache. Together, Brad and Dennis developed a pilot series which received strong ratings when it aired on The Nashville Network in early 1996. Based on this success, TNN signed the show as a weekly series which premiered in January, 1997. After only 6 months on the air, Dennis was selected by The Cable Guide and Total Television as one of the "Hot Faces of Cable" for 1997. In 2000, the show moved to Speed Channel and reaches over 65 million households in the US.
Now in its ninth season, My Classic Car is one of the highest rated motorsports programs on the network. Dennis is also the creator and Executive Producer of the weekly motorcycle program, Corbin's Ride On, which premiered on Speed Channel in 2002. Brad and Dennis received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award for Indiana in 2000. Dennis also serves on the Board of Directors of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) as well as a number of academic and industry advisory boards and councils.

2. I have worked and talked to Dennis Guage many times. He is a genuine car guy and a really nice guy. He will chat about cars at the drop of a hat, just sometimes he is very busy and has time constraints, so maybe he can't always stop and BS. He does have the link to Pringles. All these negative comments must be from those who have not talked to him at any length. Besides, how can he be a bad guy, he is a Studebaker guy!

I met Dennis at the Hot Rod and Restoration trade show in Indy a couple years ago. I was working our booth and he stopped by, so I got a picture with him. Pretty nice guy.

Don't know about Gage...But the guy over at Pinks didn't know shit about racing when he started. My buddy and I were involved with two episodes of Pinks in our area, and it was real clear that he absolutly depends on the other guys......The shit I love is when he's waving the contestants into the lights!!! What a fuckin' idiot. The racers know how to do it!!!

6. Dennis is a great guy. Myself and the Cheaters Car Club had the great experience of being on his show a while back. I thought he told us he was a fan of riding motorcycles at some point in his life.

He shot one of my projects for one of his episodes, spent the day shooting with him back in 1999. I've seen him a dozen times since, always remembered my name and had time to BS. He's a OK guy in my book. To all the neg remarks, dont comment if you dont know what your commenting on? Simple enough?

I worked for Kalidescope Productions in L.A. We did the first pringles TV commercials and I built the sets. That was 1969 an 1970 They gave us cases of Pringles left over from the shoot. My kids thought they were so bad they dumped the chips in the trash and played with the cans. How did Dennis event them in the 80s ?

He didn't...just more internet BS.
I worked on the Pringle's commercials in 1972 at MPO Videotronics and they had been out for several years by then...our studios were at Seward and Willowby and office at Romaine and Highland.

met him 2 yrs ago at the pileup! was more then happy to stop and take a pic!! seemed like a nice guy to me....

15. I don't think it said that he "invented" Pringles, just that he had worked on Pringles... which makes sense, since there are a ton of pringles flavors now since the 'original' came out..

16. I like his show, he gets around to lot's of local events, some pretty big, that I never knew existed. He talks to the average guys about their cars and allways seems to be very positive, even when the car is kinda questionable.

I guess it must be hard for him to be upbeat and nice to everyone you meet every single day. I know I couldn't do it there's plenty of people around who just piss you off without even talking to em. I guess what I'm saying is isn't he allowed off days too?

must be a smart guy to fight off P&G's money hungry lawyers and to hold patents on their products.
The world needs pringles like it needs a nuclear holocuast.

Hotrodprimer, I also think these guys are bringing the hobby to a higher level. I think it is great what Gartlits has done with his museum. I do have a hard time coming up to a guy at a drag race with the attitude of "bow to me I am the one who invented the rear engine dragster!!" "Oh and by the way if you want a autograph that will be $5.00". The same event we also met John Force and he even took time away from ESPN to shake our hand. I always have the mentality of remember where you came from now matter how big you get.

"While Dennis had no formal training in television, " Really? I couldn't tell :D
Just kidding. The guy has a dream job we'd all love to have and of course WE could do a much better job in front of the camera and dealing with all the ego-maniac car owners is a piece of cake I'm sure. Cut the guy some slack when he isn't an expert on every car he's ever seen. You can tell he loves his work and that's what counts.

Here's a pic I snapped in '07.

BTW, Dennis is on the left, behind that tree. :D:D
That guy is huge!

I gotta agree with you on that....that goofy fucker on Pinks trys to look bad with that puss of his but he can't quite pull it off.

quote=LOW LID DUDE;3714374]I think he is like the guy on PINKS, A tv show host and thats it! I doubt either one of them could build what they talk about on there shows. Talk is cheep. At least Dennis Gage highly complements the car builders for there efforts. Now he needs to louse that stupid handle bar stash.
I think Gage is the only one covering our flavour of hotrod stuff on TV with his show. There have been some real gems over the last couple of years.
He did a show from Bonneville a couple of years back that was excellent, interviewed the Bean Bandits on it too, cool!
The show on the Cheaters Car Club was good too. Off the wall bunch with a very serious club credo!
The Hop Up Reliability Run with Morty, (Hop Up magazine publishing mogul Mark Morton , sorry Mark!) and his group including the Branch's and the Valdez's.
I also enjoyed the Hunnert Car Pileup show where the HAMB was given a very genuine plug.
This last show mentioned earlier in this thread with the custom Mercury and Riviera was a visit to Mark Morton's home to see more of his personal collection, there was a hint that there will be more to come on Morty's stuff. Stay tuned!
I will admit that Gage is a little goofy on screen, be he's alright in my books.

26. Met him in Ocean City a couple years back, seemed like the kind of guy you'd like to have a beer with and bench race. Sure has a great job.
