Denver Specialty Center---Gone?!?!?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by OG lil E, Dec 7, 2007.

  1. I don't get out to the East Side very often, but this week I've had a job out that way and I've run out Colfax to Havana. Wednesday afternoon I was driving past Denver Specialty Center and I noticed the place was empty and there was a for sale sign in the window. What happened? Out of business or store relocation?

I did a search to see if any one posted about this, but all I found was colorado51's post saying they closed down in the Super Shops thread. If they are gone, that is a real shame. They provided me with lots of help and great parts at fair prices for various cars I've built over the years. Tom, the former owner held out selling to whats-his-name down on 8th Avenue to prevent a monopoly. The new owner made a great go of it, but it looks like tough economic times took their toll.

    So, what's the story? E

Tom is a good guy. He always helped us out with everything and cut us deals that he never had to. Just a real cool old school type of guy. Now days, with the Net, the ease of online ordering, and the poor customer service that I see everywhere, I always wondered how small cool hot rod shops where going to pull through. I guess the good ones are all gone.

  6. Sure nuff Eddie. Tom's helped me a ton over the years to. Sad thing is that they really didn't owe a whole lot to keep the place (as far as a business goes). Less than 20 grand if I remember right. Either way care to guess where most of that stuff went to? Good ol Streamline

You know, I liked the Denver Specialty Center too, and I know that there have been people here who work for Streamline, but I wonder with Streamline's Inventory and such, did they take out Tom?

Tommy did not own the business any longer (he owns the building, that's all)...he sold out to a group a few years ago...they were the ones that lost the business to back taxes...Streamline had nothing to do with closing them down...the STATE of ColoRODo did. Not paying taxes is a huge NO NO...

Dang, that was a neat place. I used to go there and window shop when I lived in Lakewood.

Sad deal. Matter of fact I'm still running the wheels that Tom set me up with on my 55 and that's going back about 20 years.

  11. Thanks Roger

  13. I just came across this thread while trying to get a phone number for DS on google.

So I started calling other shops around Denver, Mike @ C4 Hot Rods sent me to QDE ( Quick Diversified Product) in Hudson, 303.536.0673. He said ask for Tom.

Yea, the same Tom. I told him I would p*** his info on and let people know he is selling parts.
