Deployed, and a hot rod noob.

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by The_squid, Sep 10, 2013.

  1. Hello all, first off thanks for all the awesome info that is posted here, makes deployment go by much faster reading it all! Hoping to start a project later this year with my dad as a father son thing since i've been gone in the military for a few years now. Hoping to learn alot to make sure I do it right! All i know is that it will have a flat head, and three pedals and early wire wheels, and bomber seats!

Welcome from Wisconsin. First of all thank you for your service to our country!!! You rock!

If you have some downtime this is a great place to learn. Sounds like you are on the right track with the parts you have listed. When my brother was deployed to Kuwait he read an article in Popular Mechanics about 125 Shifter Karts. He became very interested and spent a lot of his downtime reading and learning. It really paid off as when he got out of the service he put together a 125 kart and was extremely competitive. My point is this may be a great time to look at all the sweet rods and customs on here and figure out which car you want to build. You sound like you may want a Model A coupe with that list of parts???????:D

Thank you once again for your service. Hopefully someday soon we'll subscribe to your build thread.

  11. thanks! that is what i do here. i love acvw's but it is time for a change. my enlistment ends in 2 years, and i plan on going to school again for diesel technology and some fabrication courses as a refresher from the ones i took in highschool. At e-3 it's hard to save money when i am in san diego, especially with the cost of gas there and everything else. i am hoping to get a roller going with 2-3 grand. I don't want amazingly perfect mirror paint. Flat black seems to work just fine. I may go with another mill just for cost reasons right now, but i have no idea what is "period correct". The A bodies i see for sale are incredibly expensive, and i don't want to go with fiberglass, so i may wait till i can find a nice 27t roadster with the turtle deck that isn't to beat up. If i could find a decent body for 1000-1500 i would be stoked. I know it will need a little loving, but I can not get the thought of a roadster, rowing through a few gears wind in my face and lake pipes roaring and cackling out of my mind. call me crazy.

    Thanks again!
