Derusting with Vinegar... what NOT to do.

I recently bought some 34 Ford sheetmetal. It is in good shape, but has surface rust on the interior side of the metal. My car is totally rust free, so I
decided to derust the new panels.
I make a wooden frame to house the body panels, bought a pond liner to hold the vinegar, set the p***enger side quarter panel in the "pool", then filled it with vinegar. I let the QP soak for 3 days, flipped it over to soak the remaining areas with vinegar. I noticed the next day that was some leakage from the liner. I figured I had punctured the liner with a sharp edge of metal.
The next day I removed the QP, washed it off and coated it with oshpo to protect it.
I then installed the drivers side QP, next day the tank is leaking at a faster rate... I now see that the vinegar is reacting with the liner material.
The long drawn out moral to this story is, don't waste extra money on a lifetime warranteed pond liner. The vinegar will eat it in less than a week and the derusting solution will leak all over the place.

Also don't do it in your garage. You will find it also likes the taste of concrete...

Do not let carbs sit more than a couple hours. The elements leech out of the potmetal and it becomes brittle.
