I'll have to dig out a 1956 National Service Data book I have to see if Desoto is in it. That may take some digging as I am not positive where I have it stashed.

Thanks for the offer of info guys.

    I need details on a 56 330 fireflight

  6. 95EDB09D-1AA4-48C4-823F-FB81581FF673.jpeg I bet you didn’t think I really had the book,,,lol,,,just kidding.
This manual covers the years 1946-1956.
    Okay,,here goes

    56 Fireflite 330
    Compression ratio,,,8.5
    HP,,,255 @4400 rpm
    Oil pressure,,,,50-65
    Ring gap,,,,.010,,,compression and oil rings
    Rod bearing clearance,,,.0005-.0015
    Bolt torque,,,,45-50

    Main bearing clearance,,,,.0005-.0015
    Bolt torque,,,,80-85
    Crank end play,,,,,.002-.007

There is a ton of information in there,,,more than most people would ever need nowadays.
I looked up the oil pump clearance,,,,I will get it another time,,,a fair amount of writing there. I need my other gl***es to copy all of it down.
But,,,those pumps are a very goood quality pump,,,usually always check in spec.
If you need it ,,just let me know.

  8. 4C0773D6-DBEF-4126-AF4A-089502B880ED.jpeg Okay,,here is what the manual says.
Since you have worked on aircraft,,,I will just hit the high spots.
It states,,,the cover should be smooth and flat within -.0015 .

This is very easy,,,it will have some scratches I’m sure,,,they can be removed easily with a surface plate and some paper with a circular motion,,,you know the drill .

Rotors to top of pump body,,,,clearance is .004 max,,,again,,,if it is close,,,it is easily corrected.

Outer rotor to pump body,,,,,clearance is -.012 max,,,,I am certain it will be in tolerance unless it is badly worn.

Insert outer rotor and inner rotor into pump body,,,,feeler check between rotors is -.010 max.
Again,,,it should be in tolerance,,also,,,check for any galling or score marks,(,,I just added that.)

Remove and clean / inspect relief valve . Should not be any severe galling or scoring
After cleaning it should move freely in the bore .

After complete cleaning and re***emble,,,,tighten top cover bolts to 10-12 ft. Lbs.
Bolt to block is 30-35 ft.lbs.

If you should need a new pickup,,,Hot Heads has them for 27 dollars .

  9. Oh yeah,,,here is my pump for my 291.
    It checked,,,,main rotor to body,,,,.007
    Rotor to rotor,,,,.004
    Rotors to cover,,,,.002
Like I said,,,unless they are awful worn,,,they will check pretty darn good.

These pics are after I relubed it to prevent rusting.
I completely cleaned it in Chem dip,,,,and it was perfectly clean,,,,but fresh clean iron will rust like a S.O.B. In just a little while unless you oil it..
I completely oiled the body by hand,,,just to be safe.

  10. Oh yeah,,,the firing order is :

    1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2,,,,,clockwise.

    Thanks @Destoto291Hemi

That should get me on the way. I will have to find a manual. Gives me an excuse to hit old books stores and garage sales.
