Yes the now 290ci does have a girdle. That maybe the car I can't read the first name on the door to well. Where did the engine end up after you got it?
Stay away from the 291 heads since the chambers are the same but the ports are smaller and there will be mismatch on the intake and exhaust manifolds. I do have some 330 heads, but will have to check on their condition. Bill
Your right Bill tall deck heads flow a lot better. They do have more potential for power. Maybe I don't want to give up on the 291 heads since I have 4 sets let me know if you track those 330 heads down.
Thanks for the pics, I did confirm that the car ran a desoto hemi as one of it's first engines from some g***er guys but I didnt find out if it was a tall or short deck. Thanks for all the info you sent.
@ least one guy was using low deck heads on a high deck, looking at higher port velocity than the high deck heads would do, best I recall.
Finally, when i was home I got to pull the plastic off the heads. They are tall deck heavily ported heads with bigger valves. I'm not sure where the valves are from though. Also, one set I had boxed up were tall deck heads too. When I bought them I was told they were all low deck heads. I still haven't had time to go through all the stuff since I'm never home. I did buy another blower manifold from the guy selling them in NZ with a set of finned valve covers for my 341 going into my 35 3w someday way down the road. G***erJohn the 291 has a girdle but not my 341. The girdle is super heavy and stout and somebody chromed it at some point.
