I have read a few post about putting a big block mopar water pump in a desoto housing. I am considering converting my 55 291 housing to accept the mopar pump as a diretct bolt on. The only thing stopping me is nobody has said how it actually works. fitting is one thing, cooling is another. I hope somebody out there knows how well it works or doesn't work. Otherwise I need the name of a good re-builder to send my desoto pump to. Thanks Jeff
Jeff, yes, it can be done using a MoPar 383 water pump, and apparently at a pretty significant saving, if you have a few tools and follow the pointers in Rabid Whippet's thread of October 2009. Search here: 1952 Desoto Water pump
My water pump was from a 360 1976 Dodge corronet. Napa part number. WP 58176 You also save 10% when and if you use a AAA membership card at all Napas. https://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/...176_0267404528&An=599001+101976+50020+2020012
Thanks guys. I can go ahead and bore the pump housing out and shift the bolt pattern for the newer style pump. And thanks for the AAA tip!! 10% means 4 bucks is 4 bucks!!
