Projects Details or wasted energy?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by scotty t, Apr 13, 2020.

  1. I can barely force my self to get anything done in the garage lately, but i did this today! Im working on a 56 chevy so i took the chevy turn signal lever and merged with a cool pontiac lever, cut off both ends and swapped, cool detail or wasted energy? Oh yeah i also adapted my “power pedal” from a 58 pontiac

Great stuff @scotty t...milestones no matter how insignificant one might imagine...Tell me isn't that adjustable holding jig a Tech Thread topic from some time ago? Darn good idea...

Thanks for sharing the good times...;)

Oh man, I geek out on details. I’ll spend more time on little details that no one else will ever notice, but to me they mean everything. Well played, Sir.

  6. I do appreciate details, but they can sure slow down a project.

My projects take so long, just out of necessity, that I have had time to plan and re-plan all the little details in my head. When I get to a certain point in the project, I’ve already got the plan together. Sometimes I get distracted by something shiny.....

  8. Sound familiar!

  9. I love it. Attention to details that only a few people will notice. To me, that's what it's all about.

I do things on my projects that make me happy. Whether it is the right steering wheel, or gauges or gas pedal or exhaust tips or mirrors. Only I know when it’s right.

The power pedal is definitely cool. I don't get what you're doing with the turn signal lever though. Is the one with the plastic knob the original one? Why did it have to be cut? Couldn't you just cut the flat end off of the all-chrome one and cut threads on the end? Or is that the original one?

  13. The original is the one with a plastic end. The all chrome lever had a threaded end, the column required the flat end with screw hole. So chop chop weld off to chrome shop!

The little things still need to get done . Details set each hot rod apart . The power pedal is set and match .

It's the difference between building a car and ***embling a car is in the details.

The difference between a 2 minute look over and the car that you keep coming back to check out the details you missed the first time, second time etc.

Paying attention to details is fine, as long as the project is moving forward. The attention to details is what separates one ride from another. The problem with details is when doing the details is the only thing that gets done and all the other forward progress stalls out.
You have to get the ride done and out in public before the details can be seen, otherwise, details are just static art work hidden away someplace. Gene

  24. Well the f@cking chrome shop lost my turn signal lever! But i have another small detail to show. I relocated all my gauges the the center of the dash panel, so I wanted the delete the factory temp and gas gauge. A router some rattle can and DONE. D8248221-52A5-46F2-B7FF-828650BD784F.jpeg
