To be honest, unless I'm dealing with a licensed auto DEALER...the dealership who both sold me and works on my vehicles (the new ones) then I have always had a REALLY hard time handing over my keys. As far as my classics go, I do 90% of the work and when I need something done it's usually by one of my close buddies, not a random phone book choice.

  6. This guy was out the next day on a $160,000 bail.. He got busted... took a nap and went home... Never left santa clarita station.. I guess he had a little cash laying around..

Plea bargain means community service and probation.

See Oct 30, 2009 article below from The Signal and link.

Two men accused of operating an auto-theft ring out of a Canyon Country hot-rod repair shop pleaded no contest Wednesday in a plea deal with prosecutors, while a third pleaded not guilty, officials said.
Nellson Vels, 51, and John Landon, 36, each pleaded no contest Wednesday to one felony count of unlawfully driving or taking a vehicle.
Daryl Perkins, 50, pleaded not guilty to felony counts of unlawfully taking a vehicle, operating a chop shop and receiving stolen property, said Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Vels is the owner of Billet Works Performance repair shop in Canyon Country and is president of a local muscle-car group. Perkins is a worker at the shop. Landon is an acquaintance.
Vels and Landon are set to be sentenced Dec. 8. Prosecutors have recommended sentences of 30 days of community service and three years of probation.

There is a thread elsewhere on tricks for reducing the theft of your car but its near impossible for anyone to drive off in it if the rotor cap/button is in your pocket.... no matter who has the keys....

usually they dont waste the time driving it and exposing them selfes to being seen in a car that would stick out..

they push, pull, drag em into trailers where they disapear very quickly..
one minuet you see it,, the next its in the trailer outa sight outa mind..

the rotor..or cap..they can get that later, im sure that would stop some., but the type of theif that would go after high profile cars aint going to be a beginner i suspect

  17. Or you could let your pit bull sleep in your car or under it, ha ha

Personally, I hope that this fucker gets his karmic reward (some long painful fight with an incurable cancer).

What they ought to do is leave him in a room, handcuffed, with the people who's cars he stole, and not prosecute for whatever transpires within those 30 minutes. Make certain that he lives, and make certain that he'll never walk again. Fucking prick.

  19. I never considered wishing rectal cancer on someone before. Then I read these guys get probation. Would serve them right to poop in a bag the rest of their lives.

  20. "Wow!!! I knew someone who had a alarm put in there car and days later, Yep it was gone, Stolen... "
So, you know Sandra..Jessie's wife.. Happened to her 21 window vw, a few years back, if I remember proper, caught the guys.

Never trust anyone you don't know shop owner or not and keep a close eye on so called friends. In today's economy you never know who the thieves are or are not. Air bag you ride so it sits on the ground, thief's will have fun try to pull it anywhere. Nothing less then hanging will help these thieves. Hope the guys who's ride were in the shop got everything out of there OK.

I actually worked with Nellson a long time ago at another shop when I lived in the Valley. He was always a little suspect, although I am surprised to see this. His wife is high up in a very big SoCal Law Firm, and he has two kids, both must be in their teens by now. Haven`t had any contact with him in over 15 years, but my Best Man worked with him at Billet Works for a few years on and off thru the late 90`s, and would have left if he came across anything like this. I wonder whether his lawyer wife got him off, or if their are other forces at work here....I always wondered about the Karma of the guy, especially after he snivelled about me `borrowing` HIS (shop) welder to do a job. I took the rest of the day off rather than climb up his shirt and feed his Welder to him.......

I know this is an old thread, but I think everyone should know that Nellson Vels is still operating a very crooked business in Santa Clarita, CA under a new name "Outlaw Garage"
Nellson Vels is a very dishonest person who has no character.
Even on his company Facebook page you can read how he sold a motorcycle to a man and never sent the Title (because there never was a title in his possession) . He is a very crooked person, full of lies !

Any relation to the very famous old Vels Ford dealer ?? Just to add a shop in Huntsville Alabama was busted for being a chop shop. The name of the place was Wiplash customs. Most of his was late Mustangs and Corvettes and he had several HAMB friendly AD trucks and some 60s Cads.
