There is going to be a Detroit Dragway reunion, May 23 at Milan Dragway. This just came about within the past 24 hours. I will post the details as I get them.
Awesome! I have been wanting to take my son to the strip for the first time. This sounds like the right event. I hope there will be at least some exhibition p***es. Its hard for him to understand that you can "feel" the cars when they run.
EXCELLENT! Keep the details coming.Long over due to have some kind of REUNION.I live in the U.P. but would venture down for something like this.My time frame is from 65 to about 72,would be displaying photos and movies from that era if possible.GOOD LUCK!
Things are coming together. There will be some exhibition p***es. There will be a couple of funny cars, 10 or so g***ers, and a bunch of diplay cars including the 1959 nationals runner up for top eliminator...Hollish Brothers Comp Coupe.
The funny cars will be Bill Hallets 55 T-Bird, and the Big Mike Burkhart 69 Camaro. I'll have a list of the g***ers soon.
excellent news, mine wont be ready to run but will display nicely. is there a place near the action that you will have cars just for display. something like my altered wheelbase 64 comet? it will be a full roller just no wiring or paint by then. if so i would love to bring it up n just hang out n watch the races. thanks george.
IS that the SAME weekend that Dave Crane has his back yard get to gether? Rick ==========================================================
George, there is room for display cars. Get a hold of me with your details @ ftroopwillys@comcast.net. Rick, this is the weekend before. Hope to see you somewhere!!
What about a show and shine area for folks that want to drive a cl***ic car but it doesn't fit the race car motif?
Denise, There will be a "prefered hot rod parking area". Hope to see you there. I will have complete details and flyers at Billetproof. I'll be there with my Willys (F Troop).
Commited display cars.... Todd Schmidt's Hollish Brothers Miscalculation Bantam. Al Berglers Motown Shaker AA/FC John Logghe's 1969 Logghe Stamping AA/FD Jim Maybecks Screaming Eagle AA/FC (Unrestored survivor) More to come.
I am glad to hear there is a reunion. I'll tell Ralph about it and we will go together. Big George from Staging A.
I will bring some DD memorabilia. I just got my Last Logghe Altered front-halfed but unfortunately I can't bring it and my current race car as I have only one tow vehicle. I used to race the K & D Performance (Allen Park) Logghe car at DD and have some photos of my older '23T w/ SBC there. I remember having a match race against a hemi powered '27 T. I was so excited I forgot to put fuel in it and ran out of gas on the starting line. My wife remembers running our tow truck four-wide down the strip. She won rounds with it too. I also remember driving my friend's six cylinder Pinto one time and winning Super Pro with it. I had to race a blue Roadrunner in the final and spot him. I hope to see Kenny Baksa, Danny Doyle, Jimmy Ronzello, Vance Brady, and Harry Doolittle there. Remember Gil Kohn's UHRA Sanctioning body? And the UHRA Funny car Shootout cars that were all really "house" cars? Great times. Great memories.
George, Mike talked to Ralph....he will be the starter for the Detroit cl***es. I will make sure there is a stool at the head of staging with your name on it!!!!!! Looking forward to seeing you again. Steve Timoszyk
I'm driving Big Olds to the Jalopy SHowdown in York Springs, PA this weekend. Make sure you post the details onn the HAMB when you have it and I'll get it here. I'll let you park next to Big Olds. We'll talk next week about hooking up and cruzn out together. Maybe Doni wants to go, she can ride with me in Big Olds. I probably haven't been out to Milan in 15-20 years.
Awesome looking forward to those details rain or shine I'm driving my car and hopefully with the rest of the jammers George we can push yours there who cares!
Should be a great way to kick off this years events. Great Lakes G***ers will have have a group running and will put on a good show. Jon
I remember Gil Kohn coming into the gas station where I worked in his 1956 Caddy Convert with the supercharger and Detroit Dragway was just a dream he was talking about. Remember the vapor pouring out of the dual exhaust as he pulled out into the winter night. Crazy what you remember. Detroit Dragway went on to a long history in the hot rod world. You guys have fun.
I raced there only once in the 60's, flag starter, brought home this trophy, 59 Chevy in B or C stock. Will bring the Falcon for the event.
Ill be there but if anyone see's these girls, dont tell them where I'm at cause they will not leave me alone long enough to make some p***es. I may have to wear a fake mustache or something. See you all there, stop by and say Hi . Johnny Rotten
John look forward to seeing you, we should have a good group there. The new web site should be up this weekend. Jon
