I have a Gleason unit in my OT Steda Mustang. works good in corners. The big problem with ratchet rears is when the spring gets weak.

a posi and limited slip are basically the same thing a clutch type diff and are prone to wear out or loose spring tension , for the price of a e lock or arb , you can buy 3 detroits and not have to go thru a special instalation procedure ( lining up the lines and drilling holes in your housing ) and have to worry about the air line or wire getting broken, or your compressor taking a dump ( and the compressor is another $300 and not included with the arb purchase ) , like my brothers did when he went mudding and had to be towed out of the spot ,

I been using lockers since the 1980's on many o/t cars I have owned and love them . straightline they engage with a little click when you hammer it , just engine brake a little before you turn a sharp corner at a light to unlock it . in the winter they can be a problem if you do not learn how to drive with it ( if you drive your car in the snow and ice ) , and if the car is light in the front or has tires that grab in the rear , it can push thru the corners ( oversteer) as for ratching , hardly heard it only, on a real quiet car I heard it and it was a faint lifter like tick sound on corners .

after watching these guys do there thing its not the locker thats tough on them its the drivers ... I watched a few slip the wheels and get some momentum on the tires ( 46x12 's and they have some mass too them ) then get traction and go full stop . you hear the drive lines rattle . my lill brothers ford , has twisted the splines off stock axles , went to mosers and snapped them . not bad product , just not made for the abuse they give it . when you rip teeth off of ring and pinions on a Dana 80 and the locker held up ... what does that say ??

I have not used the Locker on my AV8, I considered to use it, but a guy that I know used it. Did it work, yes. Noisy, yes. Dangerous on slippery roads, YES! On really low speed, he hit the throttle, spun sideways, lifted the throttle, Locker did not disengage fast enough. He ended in a ditch, wrecking the Hot Rod:eek:! Just to take it to consideration, the car had short wheelbase and maybe to much understeer.

I choose Clutch diff. from Auburn. Works perfect:)
