I have a bunch of pics of 50's-60's Detroit area hot rods and customs that local pin striper Gator was cool enough to let me scan. Here is one of my favorites, check out the license plate.
A friend of mine and his car are actually in the Hot Rods of Dearborn video. He is an older guy 40 years my senior. He is kinda freaked out about the internet and does not want to be identified so dont ask, lol. I have the video on DVD and have had him over to watch it. He can tell you who, what, when and where while watching it. Soooooo cool.
Born & raised in Detroit. It was a great city. I checked out the link to the dealships. Very cool. I worked at a few of them. Hettche/Conyers, Stark Hickey West & Stark Hickey Royal Oak.
Detroit has much history. It's just ashame that it has deteroriated like it has. A couple years ago a couple car buddies and myself went and took a self guided tour through the old Packard on East Grand Blvd. Some of the lowlifes and s****pers we saw in there was scary.
A gent in town Bruce Hartel worked on the Hemi develment and has in his home a never fired 426 under a sheet of plexy gl*** he also owns a very low number hemi charger as well as a 30 dodge with a real big Daddy hemi and drives on the street. real nice guy.
in a strange twist of fate, the original ford shop was razed in 1926 to build the very ornate michigan theater building. in 1776 it was partially razed to make a parking garage in the theater. turning the building back to fords and others makes of cars. the ornate plaster ceiling is still there in disrepair. parts of the balcony seating, grand entry and ticket booth are still there, though in sad shape. the stage is still there complete with tattered remnants of the curtain. there are some good before/after pics on this site, lot more pics here and a wikipiedia article. i took my truk up to the 3rd floor to take some pictures last month. more pics of my truck on photobucket about half way down.
Very cool pictures. I thought the Michigan Theatre Parking Garage was private. Do you work in the Michigan Building? -Dave
Excellent stuff, hate the shape the once beautiful theater is in but the pics are great! Please keep the photos and stories coming, I love Detroit!
Here's a cool one. I've been trying to buy this sign off the owner for some time. This sign hung on the fence (on Sibley Rd) at the dragway.
