I bought my bike from the guy that is doing all the fab work on this car....He was doing a GREAT job on the front fenders when I stopped there. Its real hard to beleive but this car is huge very bulky. Its a real nice piece of history and Im glad I got to see it in the fab stage.
I remember seeing it about 15 years and 3 owners ago. At that time its history was unknown, new fenders look great.
I am new here, that has got to be one of the slickest cars I have ever seen.... boat tail end and those doors are incredible and the fenders all around fit that car so well... WOW.
37 Kid.. its history unknown? what? It was built as a design study and for Edsel Fords personal transport!! a very famous car..I doubt an owner didnt Know what it was..
It was thought to be lost a long, long time ago, a feature back in the 70s said it had been destroyed. At some point it was found in a junkyard and only in the past 5-10 years has its origins been discovered
Here is a shot of the'32 when it was first completed. Not as well designed as some of Edsel's other speedsters, but I'd sure like to own it!
NOW we all know, but when it was the latest car a friend draged home we knew nothing about its history. He sold it back to the guy that put the Dodge/Plymouts rear fenders on it in the 1950's. After he passed away the current owner got it and looks like he'll have a finished car in a few more years.
Bob Gregorie's 1st speedster design for Edsel ford was thought to have been wrecked and lost a long time ago- would love to know it's history while it was "lost"! 37kid... can you share or are you sworn to secrecy?
The car spent time in Kent Connecticut in the 1930's, site of a private school Edsel Ford went to. I don't know for sure but I think that is how the car got here in the first place. Ford or a classmate had it, made it to a junkyard, saved, lost for 25-30 years, found, sold, resold to current owner.
Im so happy that I was able to see the car in the flesh. The guy that are doing the fab work on the car are lurker on here. I hope they shime in with some info. Ill just send them alittle email and give them a aheads up on this thread.....
The fabrication work on the edsel speedster is finished and the car is going to be taken apart for body work and paint this winter. We are very proud to have been a part of the edsel speedster restoration and we will work with Jim G on the car during assembly and detail. Here are a couple pictures of the car taken the end of Oct and early Nov 2010. We have a huge collection of photos of the metal restoration that I am going to put on our website in the near future. Thanks, Jim Barillaro www.barillarospeed.net
Thanks, My brother, Mike did the main fab work on the fenders, side aprons, grill, and windshield frame. I have been working on the detail stuff for this summer and fall(trim, dash, floors, tail lights, etc). We have had a great time working on the car and have become great friends with the owner. Jim Gombos is the best customer a guy could ask for. He is a down to earth hardcore hot rodder and the car is in great hands. Jim
