Looking for info on 32 ford cabriolet body dimensions. Does any cabriolet body parts interchange with 5W, 2 or 4dr. sedans? I know that roadster body is completely different than cabriolets. Need to install subrails and floor....all of this is missing. Could 32 5w A-pillar and B-pillar work on a cabriolet? Prior owners really hacked this body.Front cowl, rear half and two doors...no rockers in place. I have very little to locate on frame for ***embly other than firewall. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Deucecabby
I would contact Brookville. There should be some things that interchange with a roadster. The A pillar on a 5w I dont think will help you, especially above the belt line.
Use the rear fenders to position the rear. They bolt to the frame and body. Set the door gaps and tack weld them into position on the cowl and quarters, use the firewall to locate the front. That'll get you started anyway... Good luck with the project. Those Cabriolets are cool and a bit rare for Hot Rodding!
What Hacker b said. I've got a cabriolet in about the same shape. I think you could use the 5 window or roadster subrails. Cabrio doors are different length than either of those so modify the b pillar location & rocker length to fit. I've got other projects in the line up, don't know when I'll get to my cabrio.
Look forward to the build thread, first Hot Rod I ever saw was a '32 Cabriolet back in 1961, it made a lasting impression. Bob
subrails and floors for the cabroilet,5 window and roadster are the same, all other 32 ford floors are much different.
I believe the roadster and 5w subrails are different, only where the B pillar is mounted. Easy fix. The roadster door and 5w door are different lengths.
Roadster subrails are different than anything else. For the cabriolet project use some 5-window subrails. They are close to the cabriolet's. If you are missing all the lower end, I'd say it's best to order up the UPAC subrail set. Using the firewall and rear fenders to get your heights right is wise. Be sure to install the rubber seal between the firewall and cowl when you bolt them together. Edit: corrected wrong info.
Doors on a cabriolet are longer than a 5w, so are the rockers, The B pillar is farther back on a cabriolet. 5w sub rails are closer than roadsters.
The difference between the 5w and cabriolet rockers is length and width. The door length on a 5w is 28 inches at the center of the door bead and 27 inches at the bottom of the door and rocker length is 27 inches. The width of the flat on the rocker is 1.750 on the 5w were the cabriolet is 1.250. The length of the cabriolet door at the center and measures at the bead 29.250 and the rocker length is 28.50 . You can see in the pictures that it is shallower by a 1/2 inch. Let me know if you need any more measurements or pictures
thanks John! i'm 99.999 percent certain my 32 is a cut down 5 window (everything above the reveal was cut off) but I never measured the door length to be certain on way or the other.... I made up all the door patches myself so I never even checked....
Just look for the bead that parallels the trunk lid on either side. 5 windows had it and Cabriolets didn't. IIRC yours is a 5 window. I was checking out some coupesters because I was thinking about doing it to the 5 window I had. I've since traded it off.
Just glad I can help and sorry to hear it may be a coupester but wicked cool little hotrod still . Heck with the repops 5w you can toss a top on her if you get sick of the fresh air. I have the extra cabriolet body if you ever choose to go that route as well.
Another cabriolet detail I did not realize! I've looked at a couple of them real well too. No excuse I guess. Lol Like I said 99.999.... I looked into the cost of putting a new roof on it and it would cost more than the entire car so far. I've p***ed on two good parts bodies I should have picked up to do the deed for way less.
