I have had my truck for sell and while I have had some offers but I haven't made any deals. Saturday,I was talking to a guy I have known for a few years and he was asking about my pickup and said he had purchased a Brookville Deuce roadster body about 3 years ago and hasn't done anything with it. Without thinking I ask would he be willing to trade the roadster body for my pickup cab,bed and fenders...he said he would rather have a truck than a roadster,so yes! I haven't actually committed but the wheels are turning in my mind.... I would really like to have another roadster but my main concern is what to do about a ***le. Any thoughts? HRP
That is a perplexing quandary for sure. You'll be retaining the truck frame so you should keep the ***le, but it will ultimately be a roadster body. Does your S. Carolina ***le indicate "truck" or just '32 Ford? I'm thinking you could be opening a big can of worms if you approach your DMV wanting to change the ***le. This has my head spinning just thinking about it.
Personally I would rather have your cool truck which is a real "32" than a "kit car" made from an aftermarket body, even a steel one.. Both are cool and you have a tough decision...
I love the truck but due to my height and bad leg any extended ,cramped up long distance just don't work anymore. I'm still driving it around within 50 miles but anything over that is just too much. HRP
If you are going to enjoy the car more than the truck and it is going to get you out and about more. Then it is a good thing. What is the use in having something you don't get to enjoy the way you want to? The ***le should not be a major issue as the ch***is and motor are staying.
do you really want to tear apart your pickup? i've always had a hard time justifying taking apart a running/driving car with nothing wrong with it just to make a change. it will be off the road while you make the swap , who knows what can happen to hold up progress...it may be down a long time. that's why i just build a new car and sell the old
Excuse me if I am missing something here, but aren't you talking about using a truck vin on a roadster? Aren't they two different animals? Does the 32 vin identify the "type" of vehicle it is? Please do not read my posting as being sarcastic or a wise ***. I am truly puzzled here do to my lack of dmv knowledge. Is what you want to do any different than wanting to use a vin from an old 32 on a kit car (steel or gl***)? I honestly don't see how what you are trying to do is legal. I hope I am wrong and I'm very curious as to what dmv tells you. I'll be following this thread.
The only serial locations on a deuce are on the ch***is...the body ain't nothin' in a legal sense. If you have the ch***is you have the vehicle and ***le. You need to get to DMV and see what body swap procedures are just so the thing matches up visually...I know NJ has/had a form for that back when there were frames.
The VIN in 1932 is actually the serial number of the engine telling when the engine was produced. The same engine was used in all of the vehicles (allowing for the fact that some were 4 cylinder and some were V8's and used a different series of numbers). One exception would be if it was a large truck with a 4 speed transmission it would have had a different prefix on the serial number. In California you used to (40 years ago) be able to go to DMV and fill out a simple "statement of facts" form about changing the body type to get your registration updated, I ***ume it is still the same but ask first before doing anything. The other guy has a ***le problem but he probably already had one with the roadster body. Charlie Stephens
............. Danny, I'm working on a deuce roadster for Ron H , the 6'6' gentleman that had the Red &Black coupe a t the all deuce show.. We were able to get him in, so I'm sure you will fit...A side note to this is that our friend Tom T . ,who was also at all Deuce show, cannot see over the horn ****on.....
Jack, yeah,I talked to Ron about you building his roadster...he is a touch tall. Randy was always trying to get you to come to the Deuce Run,,maybe you can make it next year. HRP
"Truck" for Ford meant big truck, BB's, with totally different ch***is and everything behind the engine. Serial was begun with BB or ABB (or wazzit BBA?) to indicate the engine was a four speed equpped truck unit. For first several years V8 trucks were BB18...A pickup on its p***enger ch***is was a commercial to Ford, not a truck, and serial number was indistinguishable.
Do I want to take it apart,,,NO,but no one has stepped up with the cash and bought it. As far as being of the road,I understand that things can take longer than anticipated however..I but the truck from ground up in less then 6 months. Even if it is down for a extended period I have a Deuce Sedan I can drive and the '54 "Ranch Wagon". HRP
The serial number was originally stamped on the back of the block and in 3 places along the drivers side of the frame. I don't know if it legal or not that is why I'm going to go to the DMV and ask questions,I know the South Carolina DMV has regulations that other states don't even consider. HRP
Had a buddy who was kind of ornery, got pulled over in his "A" coupe. Previously had a P/U body on it & never changed the registration. Told the cop he would go home pull 6 bolts change the body & see him in court.
here in Calif there are people that offer registration services for situations like this. could email Donna Leak - pro.reg.service@gmail.com and maybe she knows someone in your area that can help you out.
Years ago I changed bodies on a couple of '32 Fords and DMV had no problem changing the ***le to another body and that was in Calif. I am in Idaho now with a Brookville roadster body and DMV put the Vin # plate on the door jamb. I asked the inspector about a body change and he said just bring it in and he would transfer the Vin plate to the new body.
Even if it was that simple, it would still be a pain in the ***. HRP, I hope it goes to a HAMBer. I'll miss seeing the ol' girl.
If you stop and think about it, your truck is a well known, born and bred Hamb project truck. I would feel weird to know someone took my old coupe and put a different body on it.
Took a model A coupe ***le to DMV. They had me fill out the paper work and I put in pickup. Done deal. Jack, that was a cheap shot you took on Tom
Danny, I have a truck also. My original plan was to swap from roadster to truck with the seasons. There was enough complications that I haven't done that. A roadster is a 4 month car where I am. If it was my only toy, I'd have to think about it. When you have multiples, it's different. As you well know, there's not always a buyer.
