I would like to run fenders on my 32.....I checked with Brookville and they are now making a package deal, including running boards....everything to put em on for 3k....sounds good. I have also been watching a set on ebay. The guy turned a fendered car into a highboy and sold everything including headlights and headlight bar. I wasn't expecting the high bid to be 7800 bucks. I know the stuff is expensive, but it's getting kinda crazy. How about one hood side with the 25 louvers for bragging rights...one thousand bucks. Maybe I should just take a sawzall to my coupe and sell it in chunks...I could list it as one square foot of deuce, your choice, starting bid 1k.....many square feet later.....I get to retire. Oh by the way, I don't need a lecture about this subject, I am just making a comment.
That 7800 is crazy. Deals still happen. I bought a fair complete set for a coupe at Pate last year for $400. A friend just bought a nice pair of fronts for $400 on ebay. I keep all sorts of scrap nobody else would keep for use as patch panels. I still like the old beat up stuff better than repo. There is nothing prettier than a set of black shiney deuce fenders.
And I can remember when you could get N.O.S. rear fenders for $400.00. Most of you guys missed the good old days. Brookville stuff is pretty good stuff and will save a lot of time and work that you would have to put into used ones.
Be aware even the repops will probably need a little massaging. Bought rears from Gaslight, they fit pretty good, bought fronts from So-Cal Az, don't know who made them but took a lot of work to make them right.
25 vent hoods have always been somewhat difficult to find. They came out August the 18th, 1932 for warm climate cars with V8's. I paid $300 for these ... in 1979 which was STUPID money at the time. Their are going back on my 32 Roadster ... with a little " paint freshening up " . 32 Ford fenders are crazy $$$ ... I watched that same eBay auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...RK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=250093570343&rd=1,1 Crazy money ... but they looked nice. Too rich for my old retired pocket book. Glad I bought a bunch of them back when they were 2 to 3 hundred for real nice ones. Mine did look like this ... but after a few weeks of hammer and dolly work they look like this ... It's only metal ...
I'm Hatchs evil twin.....fenders and a roof.....HA!!!!. I've seen Brookvilles fenders, and they will need almost nothing to prep em for paint.....or just shoot em with muriatic acid and leave em in the snow for a decade or two.....PERFECT!!!!
How about the 25 louver sides on E-Bay now, this morning they were at 2800.00 and climbing! Or the front bumper brackets that brought around 350.00 a couple of weeks ago. I have used Brookville coupe rears on a coupe and cut a set for a sedan and they fit good. I used several pair of the fronts that were originally made by the old Funks and they need quite a bit of work. I have not tryed the new Brookville fronts, but I would bet they fit.
Is Brookville making their own '32 fenders, or are they selling Gaslight fenders? (I've even heard that Gaslight makes the Model A doors for Brookville)
Gaslight does not make the fenders, they have them made at a sheet metal manufacturer nearby. They own the tooling. I believe the Brookville fenders are made there as well, perhaps through the Gaslight connection perhaps independently.
Brookville fronts are made by Brookville. I saw them at LA and like all the brookville parts, they look great. I've been to the factory a couple times, and Ray won't let anything second rate be sold. Previously, they were selling someone elses fenders, not anymore.
owning a 32 is like joining the army, you did it to yourself. Now ya got to pay to play. Hey, have a great 32 day.
How about $499 for a 32 3W ashtray ?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...RK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=150102968924&rd=1,1 Not even a nice ashtray ... NOW ... that's stupid money ... for a ashtray I saw a cigar lighter go for $400 plus ... again STUPID $$$ The stuff is out there ... and not for STUPID money I am glad I got in on the ground floor back in the 70's
Several years ago, I got a set of new repo fenders with a '32 Vicky. I don't need them and would sell them. I'm not sure what models they will fit. Can anyone tell me what models they will fit? I'm not sure who made them but assumed that they were from Brookville. I know the shipping box looks identical to ones I've seen at Brookville's displays at various shows.
I really don't want to chop my coupe.....and I think they look weird as an unchopped highboy, so fenders will probably happen....brookvilles. I'm not a purist....I'm just needing fenders for winter michigan driving.....I hate salt spray on my windshield.
Fronts basically interchange ALL passenger body styles ... Rears ... Victoria is a sedan fender so they fill go on 2 door and 4 door sedans ... and Phaetons ... All rear fenders started out as coupe/roadster fenders but have the section at the top of the fender cut out @ the factory because on passenger cars with a rear seat ... the body is wider at the fenders. The cut out is from about 11 o'clock to 1 o'clock ... I do not have any sedan rear fenders to show you ... This is a coupe/roadster fender ...
Hatch,,32 ford fenders are found just laying around here in the sunny south,,,,and they are real 75 year old steel and rust! I picked these 4 fenders saturday, granted they ain't too nice and need tons of work but I didn't have to take out a second loan on my house! HRP
I just put fenders and the new drake boards on my 5 window. The fenders I used came from gaslight, but I did get a set of Brookville fenders delivered also. They were in the same boxes as gaslight and packed the same. Both are coming from Ohio??? I would think probably the same place. Anyway, the rears did not require a lot of work the fronts did. We used the recent article from streetrod builder to make the front fenders symmetrical to one another. There was up to 3/4 of an inch of difference from side to side. If I could of found henry tin that was in good shape and not 2 time the price I probably would have gone that route, but it is nice to have new tin available and I agree Brookville's products are excellent. The new drake boards are a little nicer than the V-8 shop boards if you hold them up side by side. They have good detail and shape
When I ordered new fenders from Early Ford was told they were all coming from same the same manufacture in Ohio. When installing ,I found , when bolting fender to boards the out side of both will be lifted in gull wing fasion, both fronts had to be cut, front and rear and reshaped in beauty mark..Rears on left side line off boards to fender goes down hill, right is fine..The are still much better the not having any..
I have some Brookville sets that I haven't used yet but I heard the fronts need a little work. I have friend that put some rears on his 5W coupe and they were pretty good without needing too much. I have used the front fender braces and and they are a big part of the problem, they aren't even close to the originals. I was told by a friend that has been a long time dealer that Brookville stamps their own rears and puts the beading in them. The fronts are stamped in the same press with Gaslight's and then they are all sent to Brookville where they put the beading in all of them in a trade off deal with Gaslight. I think thats why the quality has improved since Brookville started doing the beading which has a lot to do with how they fit. Can anyone verify this?
I do know that the repro fender braces do not fit worth a toot ... I always buy originals when I see them and and they are not eBay priced ... I have two sets at the powder coaters now ... one set for the roadster and another set for the 3W ...
Hey Hatch, I helped a friend of mine on this Deuce that was in the 75th. display at Autorama,..... The rear fenders are Brookville and they were just about dead on,..... really nice fenders, The fronts however were sold to him by Brookville ,but were indeed Gaslight, The back of the fender didn't match up with the running board at all, both ran off on a angle to about 3/4",.... I cut the back of the fenders and welded them back up to match the boards,.... the steel is also a strange deep draw steel and it's soft,.... don't lean on them. If Brookville ever does make there own front fenders I wouldn't hesitate to use them.
When did he buy them? It's my understanding that Brookville has just recently started stamping their own. Could his fenders be from the past supplier? I can't believe anything Brookville does "in house" is an inferior product. With all they do, and have done in the past, now wouldn't be the time to drop the ball. I talked to Ken Gollahan at the gnrs, and he told me they are stamping their own now.
I try to find the good originals too but usually they are either rusted heavily or bent to hell, usually towards the rear from collisions. Buying them from looking at pictures on Escam usually doesn't have a happy ending for me. I haven't been able to cold straighten them very well because they are pretty stout and it's hard to get a grip on them. It must its time to get the smoke wrench out. I guess I can't make em any worse. The repops don't have the correct bend above the frame attachment point and they keep the fender pushed to the inside too much and it doesn't get any better with the rest of it. I hate to have to cut up stuff that's supposed to fit.
