Hey guys, Just finally finished repairing my deuce grill and shell; I have a 31 with a 6in channel. A 350/350 combo. I got a 15 in custom radiator to keep the grill where it supposed to be on the crossmember. When the top of the shell is in sync with the cowl, it, the shell will be, a good 1in off the ground.I don't want to s****e the paint off the bottom worse yet mangle it. Is there anyone out there that would know the travel of a dropped straight axle? And what my minimum distance from the road would be or could be? I would rather shim up the spring from the crossmember than to lose the length of the shell. Any other ideas will greatly be appreciated. Thanks guys, RANDx warren cnty nj
Probably don't want the bottom of the shell below the front axle. Disconnect the front shocks and bounce the front end, should indicate suspension travel and how close the shell will be to the ground. Be careful if it's one inch from the ground it will hit. Most of the channeled cars section the shell to shorten it. Good luck!
you really don't want it less than 3 inches off the ground and this is risking that it will still s****e on something. You may have to section or cut some out of the middle of the shell so the top of the shell is not higher than the cowl. some people angle or lay the grill shell back a little to try not to shorten it. good luck with your project......
