I was checking completed listings for 32 Fords. I must have checked a hunderd or more and only saw three sales and all were 22K or below. I think the hobby may be moving on.

If that's true, I wonder what the next big thing will be? Or is already heating up?

If Deuce's really are going down in price, "Deuce guys" will see them as a bargain and start buying them. It's like seeing your favorite stock take a large dip. True fans start buying rather than selling off.

50's cars seem to be hot right now. Guys get older and have an easier time getting into and cruising a larger car.
That doesn't always mean they unload their 30's Coupe or Roadster-it just gets driven less often.

Everything is down proportionately IMO. Stuff in general is as cheap as I have ever seen it, including parts. There are also signs on the horizon that the current version of "traditional" has almost run its course as the current hot "flavour of the week", something else is on the horizon and closing fast. If TRJ is an indicator anyway.

With any luck the fake survivor look has run its course.

Maybe one day it will be that 32 5 windows are actually affordable again and I can buy one.

I will love to see the day when people stop thinking of them as some gold plated "holy grail" :D

Hmm, Maybe I'll be able to afford a deuce of my own soon! I've just gotta get a '32 coupe before I'm too old to drive one. Trouble is I can't decide between 3 window or 5 window!

Yep, a bunch of my old hot rod buddies are thinking that way, opting for a later ('40 - up) closed car with a little more comfort so they can do the longer rod runs in retirement.

  12. Well, if you are buying deuces, or any old car, for investment purposes, I can see how that might be bad news. Personally, I wish they would get as cheap as they were the first time I bought one. Its a hobby, not a retirement investment for me and many others.

Andy, it's not only '32s. When I built my Deuce roadster in the early '90s there were several guy's in my area building hot rods. Today, I don't know of anyone around that's building a car. Just look at how many rod shops and hot related magazines that have closed shop in the last few years. Us older guys that grew up in the heyday of hot rodding are getting too old to build cars anymore. I'm 70 and I'm building a Model A but none of my peers are. Kid's today don't have a clue what a real hot rod is, they think a Honda or VW lowered with loud exhaust is a hot rod. When I was growing up every kid wanted a hot rod or custom of some sort. Just a fact of life Andy, hot rodding as we knew it with Model T's and A's, '32s, '33 and '34s and '40 Fords is over.

  15. ............Why not just have one of each?;):D 044-vi.jpg IMG_0287-vi.jpg

  16. Oh no! The sky is falling!

Hopefully 32's hit model A money soon and then I can daily drive one of them too.

There are guys who will stick to the same type of cars no matter what the trend, then there's the ones who build whatever is hot.
Since I've been old enough, I've seen some trends evolve. In the 80's, it was prostreet, which seems to have evolved into the big wheel/LS pro touring style. In that same era, there were those guys building the ultra radical mini trucks which seemed to have found their way into the ridiculous radical rat rod movement. The older guys who had the "Boyd style" stuff now seem satisfied to take a late 50's-early 60's restored car bag it and put 20's on it and cruise.
Many of these are the next big trend followers, so that's the way they'll go next....

So, when did Hot Rods become a 401K any way? Yea, Deuce prices have been crazy for a while, but everything has a cycle. Honestly, as has been stated so many times before, if you're in this HOBBY to make a profit, chances are you'll lose rather than gain. Or, you'll have an investment that you're too scared to drive and enjoy. These things are made to drive.... right?

IMO, if the guys doing this for profit bail, it'll weed out the herd and leave the REAL Hot Rodders.

32's are like belly buttons these days.
Plus so many people sticking 32 rad shells on anything that sits still.
    Highly over rated.

I'll go for "one of each"!
Back in '72 or '73 I bought a '32 5w with a 350 and a 4 spd for $1500 and drove it home with my girl friend following me. I'd be stoked to buy one for $15,000 these days. $25,000? Hell yeah.

  28. I purchased my first Deuce in 1962 and I have always liked them, over rated or not there will always be a market for them. HRP

32's are about the same as 33-34's in prices nowadays.
I had an opportunity for an even up trade for a 32 about 9 years ago. No way.
I am just not enamored over the style.
    33-34 now I'd give a left nut.
I really find it hard to believe any 32 being priced under 25.
I have noticed a lot of other years dropping in price lately.
    Really nice cars too.
