    ARE YOU GUYS READY???

THE SECOND MOVIE TEASER/ TRAILER IS OUT!

I took the less travelled road and did not use the usual rockabilly or 50's music for this one specific piece, which I felt called for something more majestic. And since some Puccini music was just donated, so I have the legal right to use it, then... Crank your speakers up! Hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed filming and editing it!

Special thanks to Jim Miller for chasing the deuce of spades all evening while I filmed. He especially did well at chasing full speed in REVERSE to film Johnny Callaway driving away from us. As for me, I was merely hanging to dear life, sitting at the edge of the open tail gate, with both hands on my camera and no hands left to hang on to the SUV. But I did not fall out :D and it was all worth it.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO MISSED IT:

    THIS IS THE FIRST TRAILER:

    Enjoy!!
Note: this first trailer (which is more of a slide show) has been getting a lot of hits in Europe and many great comments as well as great ratings. Looks like Europe loves American hotrods too!

    Song donated by "The Encounters"

  4. Enjoyed the new trailer a whole lot.

Nice choice of music - I have a couple of Puccini albums in the garage.
Both of them "La Boheme" . . . which shoulda been called Mimi and the two idiots in my opinion....

That's way cool! It's been awesome to get emails of support from Belgium, Germany, France, UK, New Zealand, Australia and Finland! I am psyched!

Just came back from a dinner meeting at Teddy's cafe, met a hotrod friend who is a pro in film, picked his brains a lot (for 3 straight hours - the poor man  ). Saw MONK I just love him to pieces, he's got to be the coolest 70 some years old man I know. And still doing burnouts :D .

Amazing dedication, each glimpse just gets better and better - and as a Scottish rodder stuck out in Singapore there is a whole world looking over your shoulder and right behind ya, HBG!

  11. Okay, I saw the dinner thing...what is that going to entail? Need fill in's for the food or table space :)

    2nd trailer is great!

    What is BBB?

  12. I'm guessing Faith may mean 'diner'.

    Probably a typo.

For a girl who only knows five languages she has a good command of English....;)

Rats, I thought it stood for Bad Boys Blow :D (hey just kidding, I have always had a thing for the bad boys ;) ).

Just got an email from one of the producers of the movie MONSTER, which won an academy award. He said putting Puccini under a hotrod footage was "brilliant" (I am merely quoting him), but I know a lot of hotrodders are going to have a stroke, seizure, rash or other biological malfunction when they hear opera on that footage. It was a risky, bold move on my part, but to me opera remains the purest form of powerful music and an old school rod on the dry lake is also as pure and powerful as it gets. So it made perfect sense. One will either GET IT big time or HATE IT, but for those who hate opera, do not worry there is only going to be one piece of opera on the whole movie, which is otherwise LOADED with doowop, 50's music and rockabily with a few acoustic modern rock cuts from my own music project (see www.alternatefaith.com) which I wrote specifically for the film.

Meanwhile I am now submitting the video to opera forums, which means that many people who probably have never seen a 32 roadster in their life are going to watch one for a whole 2 minutes, so I am exposing new people to hotrods, and that is very very cool IMHO.

    That's awesome Faith!

I personally do not like opera music, but i thought it went well with the trailer scene!
I was going to suggest hooking up with local swing dancers, but i see you've already accomplished that. Some have a great wealth of knowledge on vintage items. How much dancing will be in the movie? (not only am i into rods, but love swing dancing!)

Take care and keep up the great work!

RATS, I only speak three... And by now don't speak any of them very well  can't remember my first language, my second is not perfect and my third... Well... I used to know how to crack jokes in my third language, now I can barely remember how to ask someone to pass me the salt please... but then again, I don't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday so... Wait... It was a croissant and tea, yop, that's what it was... So maybe there IS hope for me afterall...

there are two swing dancing scenes. one at the beginning of the film, when 2007 hotrod girl goes to local LA venue to swing dance with her best friend and Swing Hall of Famer Debbie Carter (playing a cameo part in the film), so we see faith swing dancing (liny hopping actually) and we get to see some of the best lindyhopper in the US doing aerials etc... THEN there is another scene later on about halfway into the film, this one is a flashback to a dance in 1953, here we will also see some dancing. Johnny has been dragged to the dance by his best bud Art, but wants to leave cause he is heading out to El Mirage to sleep in the deuce so to get an early start at Time trials the next morning.

  18. Yeah! Thats what im talkin about! The trailer looks awesome good job looks professional to me. When your life slows down a bit you should see if you could get it to show in SLO at that drive in...that would be awesome i'd drive 5 hrs for that. I can't wait!

    UPDATES

Was cleaning up my folders when I bumped into these photos taken at a photoshoot for Old School rods. This is my friend Sean's plymouth, which I helped him buy a year ago. I am glad the car went from rotting away in a back yard in San Francisco to being driven weekly and enjoyed. He worked real hard on it and entirely by himself, building the engine, brakes, suspension etc etc... I think it's a really cool coupe not too many of these around at car meets or shows here in LA.

This car is actually in the opening scene of the film (intro credit roll scene #2), which has already been filmed :D and also features a yellow gasser and late 30's truck.

This is the old school rod photoshoot and no, the photos were never used, the story did not get published (God knows why)

    UPDATES

A THIRD TEASER HAS BEEN RELEASED!

For those of you who hate opera, I have created an alternate rockabilly version and did a completely new version of the teaser. It's amazing how the same footage can come across so differently depending on how you edit it and the music you select.

See Johnny and his deuce face a tornado :D !

    Enjoy!

    UPDATES

Heading out to meet with Airstrip owner this afternoon!! Wish me LUCK! This is one of the two airstrips I have selected as potential target. It is located a mere few miles away from where the real Saugus dragstrip once stood. It is owned by a Doctor. He seemed nice on the phone and seemed to like the sound of my project, I'll let you know what happens.

Finalized script yesterday. Did have a cool idea for a very quick flashback scene while driving to work this morning. rats. The film is already too long as it is... but I guess I'll film it and if I can I'll add it.

Talk to you all tomorrow, I hope I will have good news, although I know the chances are very slim.

    UPDATES

OK, are you guys sitting down and ready for this??

    :D :D :D :D :D :D

    WE HAVE AIRSTRIP

Drove up to Dr. Chang's property in Agua Dulce and met him. he is a quiet, classy man who sat down and asked quite a few key questions, and was a very good listener. I showed him the portfolio with photos and quotes from the film and also played the first trailer for him. We then drove up to the landing strip and he pointed out sections that I could film on and section we will need to keep off, because the oil dirt is fragile. The place looks so much like Saugus, shrubs and soft hills plus the one hill in the background, which coincides with Saugus own hill. 3 directions are free of any buildings and I will be able to aim and shoot freely without worrying about framing out modern junk.

But wait. There are more GREAT news: Are you still sitting?

THE AIRSTRIP WAS DONATED, free of charge.

I was really touched. Dr. Chang just said: I really like what you are trying to do and I can see you have a passion for it and a dream. I want to see you succeed and I will help you.

Wow. I was really touched by his kindness. What I did not know at the time is that Dr. Chang loves anything with an engine. He showed me his toys: 2 bi-planes, which he keeps there (hence the landing strip), 3 motorcycles, a 1934 ford truck, restored and all original... He loves cars, racing and so the movie hit home.

Well, that was a really good day for me I drove away in a daze thinking to myself: I can't believe I just got my Saugus dragstrip.

    I still can't.

I will post photos of the airstrip later today (hopefully or tomorrow).

So now, time to make my shooting schedule and shooting budget. The money that was supposed to be spent to get the airstrip now can be allocated to feeding the actors and crew and that is going to help immensely!!

    Let the filming begin! :D

  24. I have to tell you Faith, after reading the post on obtaining the airstrip, it sent chills thru me.
If making the movie is this exciting, I can't wait to see the final product!

Hope the good luck stays with you!

Your on a roll now! Man this must be like a dream come true for you. I can't wait to see the final product. By the way, somebody at Old School Rodz needs to have their eyes checked!

  26. Cool. Any pics of Dr. Chang's vehicles?

    Thanks,
    Kurt
