Hot Rods Deuce Pickup Transmission Problems?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by krylon32, Jul 19, 2024.

  1. I wouldn't think there would be any damage. If anything the cylinders that got the ATF mixture might be a bit cleaner.

ATF won't hurt anything as it was a little over a long time. Many marine shops fog engines with ATF for the winter. Do all services first then start engine, pour about half a quart (for V8) of ATF down the carb while holding the engine at a high idle. As you approach about half a quart then let off the throttle and let it die, pouring as necessary to kill it. Drain block, loosen impeller cover and it's good to go until spring.

Makes a large volume of white smoke and that's about it. A bit more smoke in the spring and it's off for a summer of fun!

Update: New filter, new modulator, new fluid. Test drive went perfect with no signs of any problems. They'll do it again in the morning and hopefully we're good to go?

Does that mean you will be driving it to Lincoln for Cars and Coffee at Speedway Motors Saturday morning? 60 Special

Probably not. I'm headed to Wichita tomorrow early morning to pick up a T5 for my deuce roadster project and leave off a turbo 400 for the next roadster. Then back home to pick up the deuce truck and get it home. I need to stay home and finish assembling the roadster chassis so I can get it to the body shop for the final fitting and assembly of the roadster so I can get this money pit sold and get started on the next one. When your my age you got no time to waste.

Shop called, truck done. Checked the pan and it was clean, installed a new pan gasket and modulator, filled it back up with fluid and when I picked it up this afternoon it seems to be shifting better tan ever. Fingers crossed.

Good to hear you likely have it fixed.

@krylon32 glad you got it resolved. I'd suggest that you do the steel line as mentioned before, and most important, change out that dipstick that you don't like and would have been the first thing to check on any A/T diagnosis. It's the thing that caused you to guess wrong and have the truck leave you on the side of the road.
