I'm not sure that is a real sedan delivery. It doesn't have the drip rail over the door. Looks like a Model A door handle, no big deal, but it doesn't have the proper lock hole either. When you look at the flat floor you can conclude there was some heavy rebuilding going on before the present owner got it. Without some better pictures and stripping off the plywood sheeting to get a better look at the wood structure to see if it is correct I would remain highly skeptical of it's originality.

    Exactly what I thought.
Considering all that "patina", it had me convinced until I looked at the rear door.

    Edit
I enlarged the photo and it looks like the drip rail has been removed.

I might have to waffle on this too. When I blow it up you can see where they drilled the spot welds for the drip rail, or maybe they drilled to mount the new drip rail. The patina on the door and on the body around the opening seems to match. When you convert one you need about 2" of metal welded on one or the other. The handle is a deck lid handle with a lock in the handle. I was led to believe when Briggs did the conversions they used the right side latch & it placed the lock on the body bead. Maybe Mcray (?) who does the kits will speak up. What you can see of the door jam & the sill looks OK.

You can see exactly where the drip rail was located here. And on the conversions, the metal doesn't overlap the body

  6. I seen that and I think it is the real deal from what I can see in these photos. One would have to check it out in person to make sure before shelling out big bucks for it.

I am not sure that is all correct for a original sedan delivery. There is no relief on the belt line for a lock. My book "The 1932 Ford Book" shows this is missing on this car. Any expert opinions out there?

redo32 ask me to speak up: It is a real Delivery. Regarding the door lock issue, the first Delivery's produced used a locking handle to secure the rear door. Ford's Service Letter #192, dated 9-26-32, announced that the Sedan Delivery body style would be available soon. The letter further states that a locking handle would be furnished on the rear door. The first Delivery's were furnished with locking handles, and the later Delivery's with the locks in the belt line. I have never seen an original delivery with the locking handle still installed. It looks to me like the handle shown on this Delivery is the original one. It is also interesting that the same latch mechanism was used for both designs.

As for the guttering, this is the third original unrestored Delivery, that I know of, that had steel guttering installed using nails. The pictures show the nail holes. With the gemp in the guttering covering the nails, on a nicer original delivery, you can't tell how the guttering is attached.

Also notice that the rear cross tube does not have the mounting brackets for a luggage rack. This tube was given it's own part number, by (as I remember?) adding the letter "C" at the end of the original part number. Doug McRae

  9. I agree with hotrod willie (post 58). Ebay is the largest marketplace in the world. Put the car there on a 7-day or 10-day auction, and you'll know at the end of that time exactly what it's worth. It looks like a solid body, someone is dying to own it.

Thanks Doug for enlightening us on the door lock. And to jafo for posting the pictures of the door jam. Our first impressions with incomplete information will often lead us astray.
