0-8 (1).jpg I am originally from The Big Island and I lived in Pukalani Maui and worked in Lahaina from 1994 until 2003.My 2 nephews are on Maui. The one who lives in Lahaina lost both his homes.I was the head of maintenance for 3 shopping centers at the time. The Wharf,Old Lahaina Center and New Lahaina Center. They are all gone. I see from the aerial pics on the news that Foodland and Ulalena Theatre are still standing and part of Nagasko's.
PS, I built this '32 tudor sedan(from parts) while living there and cruised with the car guys there. This pic was taken in 2005 when we went to the Roundup from CA.

I just donated $50 to the Humane society there. The animals are helpless!

Yes, very sad and sobering. remember, they are going to need a lot of help for a very long time.

  7. To give some perspective, this is a photo I took of Lahaina about 7 years ago in better times.
You can sort of see how with dry conditions, the winds can roll fire downhill like a runaway train.
God bless all those who have lost so much.

  8. I am trying to locate my friend Leslie Smith who lived in Lahaina a couple of blocks inland from the 505 on Front Street. Her late husband Bob was a former director for the drag strip (Maui Raceway Park) a long time ago. Her house is just a pile of ashes -the only things left "standing" are the remains of their Bronco, early Camaro, Falcon Ranchero and 36 Ford 4dr Sedan. My contacts in the Maui Classic Cruisers and NSRA (she is the NSRA State Rep for Hawaii) are also looking for her. She was not on the mainland for the Street Rod Nationals and she is in the "Google Drive Maui Fires People Locator" spreadsheet listed as "Not Located". If anyone has ANY solid information please contact me directly at dobtruckers@gmail.com . Thanks in advance, Dennis O'Brien

I saw a news photo showing a burned out 36 Ford Fordor and thought to myself, some HAMB er probably knew these people. So devastating. I hope you find your friend safe.

Absolutely devastating. My heart goes out to all that have lost loved ones and their homes and businesses in the fires.

My wife and I stayed in Lahaina for our honeymoon in 2020. We liked the town so much, we've gone back twice since then. When the time is right and volunteer help is accepted, we will be there to help rebuild.

My greatest sympathy for everyone there, and those connected to them. Fire is not something I would want to face.

Gonna join ya my man. I know there are a lot of human support services, but as an animal lover, I’m in too.

Sorry to say that first but such a devastating thing to hear about. The loss of people and property is truly devastating as the title of the thread says.
    Such a tragedy.

  16. Can anyone tell me Erik Tetnus Shot's last name and post a picture of his car. I'm communicating with rodding friends on Maui and they can't place a guy named Erik - you know how that goes - the first thing they ask is "What does he drive?"
    Thank you.

Make sure you put "Maui Humane Society" in as the receiver. I thought Amazon was automatically directing shipments on this site to the Humane Society. Not so, I had several cases of animal food dropped off in my driveway yesterday. It took me an hour and a half to get a live person with Amazon to rectify the situation. New shipment is off to Maui and I have a lot of cat food I can't return. They did refund the money from the first shipment and suggested that I could give the first shipment to my local humane society. I guess something good happened, but it was very frustrating for a while.

There is no infrastructure left there, nothing is getting in, or out. The government has every thing locked down. Even those local can't help much. Anything sent there right now is just going to sit at FEMA or the Red Cross as they are trying to establish some form of order in the mess.

I sent in my donation directly to the Maui Humane Society. To put it mildly this truly sucks for all those involved! Been praying a lot! I hope everyone finds their loved ones safe!

  21. Of all the places I have been in Hawaii, Lahaina is the least commercialized tourist-trap-ish place I have been to. We spent 5 days there on Kaanapali beach, at a condo called The Whaler.

Lots to see, we even saw some hot rods. We did the road to Hana, saw Lindberg's grave, the 7 pools close by. We did the sailing ship thing, saw sea turtles swimming next to the boat.

It rained in the afternoons, only sun showers and the outside restaurants never skipped a beat.

  22. Done.....me too, there are probably hundreds in need that may get overlooked by people helping people.

That '36 belonged to Bob and Leslie Smith.Bob passed away a few yrs ago. They were NSRA reps in Maui and attended many NSRA Nat'l meets in KY. There was a 67 Camaro and an Early Bronco(all restored) in her garage also.Been trying to track her down . Her place was right at the begining of Lahaina before the town .

  25. They also had a green/tan restored Bronco and you can see it in the rubble on the right side of the house where it was usually parked in the carport. She has not been to the NATS last year and this year. Some in the Maui Classic Cruisers thought (hoped)that she was in KY, but she was not and Dave, Charlie and Teresa who she reported up through are all concerned for her - as are some of the members of the MCC who knew her. Praying for a miracle!! BTW, here is her house. Leslie - after fire 8-9-23 low res.jpg
