Event Coverage DFW swap meet

Man it was a frigid Mo Fo at the DFW swap meet today. Yesterday was in the high 70's. Had a pretty good crowd for a Friday. I'm sure lots of folks took off and attended to beat the frigid cold front that was on the way. Everyone was in T-shirts and Tank Tops but man how the weather can change.

Today the high was about 38 with 20 mph winds. BRRRRRRRRRRR. Chill factor must have put it into the teens. Sales were brisk like the weather though. The weather kept most of the tire kickers at bay and left the more serious buyers.

Unloaded a fair amount of insulation and sold all of the Mexican Blanket/upholstery material that I brought. Some wanted them to use for seat covers, some got them to wrap up in! Either way is fine with me.

I'm thinking about adding them to the website. I'll probably head down towards Mexico and pick up a bunch more in a week or so and take some to the Thaw. If anyone has some color prefferences and quanities let me now. They're aprox 5' x 6'.

Didn't take many pictures but I'll post a few later. To dang cold to go out and get the camera out of the truck. If anyone has some pics to share join right in here and put em up.

The wife hung in there with me all day today. What a trouper, it'll be payback time soon! Hell the dog was even looking at me with a look like "what the hell are we doing here!"

I'm heading back out in the AM and see what Sunday will bring. Temp will be back up in the 50's with very little wind. Still got the 64 Riviera up for sale so maybe the better weather will bring out a few bargain hunters.

 

I got out there at about 8, all bundled up. Walked the entire thing by 8:45. I saw your booth on the way back to the car but was to dang cold to stop and meet ya, maybe next time. I know that more stuff showed up after I left, but I was too cold to stick around.

 

Lobucrod, if I make it down tomorrow I'll look you up. I'd like to meet you in person. Too dang cold for me today.

 

Hey I'm gonna try to make it out there tomorrow. you got any blankets left? I wanna pick some up from ya. got any hemi parts?

 

I remember a few years ago at the spring DFW I had a Henry J for sale against the fence. I was super hot and nobody was buying. I was asking 3k or so. A guy offered me $1,500 cash on the spot. I remember thinking there was no way. My pregnant wife said she was getting hot right about the time my dog vomited all over the place. I marched over there and took the $1,500 and called it a day.

The weather can be quite extreme at DFW.

 

Come on by if you get a chance. I'm on the front end of row 19. I probably wont be there till about 8:30 or 9. Maybe the sun will warm things up a little. I'll probably hit the coffee shop in the AM and tell a few lies with the locals before heading out. Not sure what time I'll be getting up, I got up at 3:30 this AM. Woke up about 2:30, layed there a while, finally gave up and got on the puter to p*** the time. Got home this evening and hit the sack and slept for about 3 hours. Now I'm up again. Damn what a schedule!

 

The Mexi-blankets Mike is selling are really nice quality and a good price, so if ya need some do yourself a favor and look him up. Good Seeing on Friday

 

Yea, we got down there about 9.30 and left about 11.00, it was'nt as bad as I thought it would be but I dressed extra warm for a change, was not going home empty handed so I bought a aircraft seat for the shop, can't have two many seats around for the dead beats, I think its an instruters seat, the guy I bought it from said he bought it for his son but I guess he's like my son and has out groWn cool stuff. We left there and went to whicta Falls to the Elks club where they were having a gathering of old dirt cars, nice stuff, brought back many memories from the 60s at the O.K.C. fairgrounds, there was a offy midget and a usac sprint car at the door way that where to neat for words . we came back thru Snyder, Okla. where I was born, The guys got the tour ( hay I drove ) I think they enjoyed it. Great trip, life is good.

 

Hey I sold out on the blankets saturday. I'm heading down south to pick up some more soon. I'll have some at the Decatur swap meet next month and hopefully at the Thaw too If Decatur doesn't get them all. No Hemi parts here.

I scored this cool*** Sun tach today. Dont know if it works or now but Its going in the collection. If it does work, all the sweeter. I'm going to post a separate thread looking for some info on it.
