When I was 12 years old my brother taught me to drive in his 1933 Dodge four door sedan. That was in 1950

In 1961 I bought a running box stock 31 Ford coupe. I learn the driving art in that old blister of a car...... Many many years later I made the car into what it is today...My son & daughter both learned to drive in that very car. My daughter took that car to her high school prom...
Still have the "old blister".... kinda part of the family now...

I'm 64. The first thing I learned to drive was a Ford tractor. I bought a 53 Ford coupe for $100 when I was 15 and got it ready to drive when I turned 16. We actually had some limited behind-the-wheel driver training in high school. The driver training car was a 49 Chevy with a 3-speed. It had another brake on the passenger side. This was in about 1960.

if you count a 62 or 63 International pickup as old...
rode my bicycle to work at dads fertilizer plant,
he said he was short people and needed my help.

"go learn to drive that pickup over there, you need to
    deliver anhydrous ammonia today..."

i was 14 and pulling anhydrous bullets around the countryside.

betcha the world would love that now, huh?

Bought my first car at 15 (no license yet) and drove it around back roads and alleys until I became legal. It was 1971 and the car was a '54 Chevy DelRay coupe.

  8. '72 Olds Cutlass (auto) then learning manual in a '70 Pontiac Gran Prix count as old?

They were both older than me at the time, if that helps.

  9. The first car I drove was a '53 Hudson Hornet convertable, it was beautiful black on black with red leather interior and chrome wire wheels. I was 2 years old - Mom started the car and ran back to the house for something she forgot. This was my be chance. I made it four blocks and was stoped by a chain link fence. I guess I have always been into cars!

My first drive was a '31 A pickup in a NH field. That was in '62. I guess I still have a thing for OLD Ford pickups. :)

I learned how to drive a standard in my Dad's 69 Ford F-100. He would take me down to the ball park parking lot and then we would switch places and I would drive around shifting the C4 transmission.

I guess mine is "off topic" but I started learning legally in my former truck, a '72 c10 longbed. Been driving other cars with only me in the driver seat since I was maybe 10. 17 now with a '72 short step

Started steering on my uncles lap in his 48 Packard and then got to drive his Studebaker PU by my self. This was in 1952, I was 13 and then got to drive a PU on my dad's friends farm the next year when they were doing the haying. lived next to a family who owned a construction company, they put blocks on the pedals for the kids to learn how to drive the cats and other rigs. I got to do the same thing and enjoyed a great child hood.

I guess I was about 8 when my dad put me on his lap and said drive. The car was a 1932 Fiat that had been a taxi cab. Were were living in Eritrea at the time (east Africa) it was 1956. I steered and braked while my dad shifted the gears. I thought I was quite something. My first lesson that included me doing everything occured a couple of years later when we moved back to the
States. The car was a 1940 Plymouth. It was a blue, four door sedan. I loved that car. My job was to check the oil every afternoon when my dad got home from work. It had a rod that was knocking and it used a lot of oil. There was many an afternoon when I had to put 4 quarts in that old Plymouth. It used so much oil that my dad refused to buy "new" oil. We used Sears Reconstituted oil. It came in glass bottles. I almost cried when dad traded that cool old Plymouth in on a 1957 Dodge station wagon. I don't think I ever drove that car. I did drive mom's '61 Pontiac Catalina (It had a three speed on the column!). I got my license driving a brand new 1963 Datsun sedan. Not nearly as much fun as that old Plymouth.

  24. I learned in 1962 in my Dads' 1949 Citroen Light 15 with the gearlever sticking out the dash.

My dad first taught me how to drive in his 28 Model 2 door sedan. It 1982 and I was 9. I just drove around the block in the neighborhood. The Model A was all original at that time. It is the same Model A that is now mine.

1930 Model A 2 Dr Sedan. Wish I still had it. Dad taught me how to double clutch all the gears. Got it when I was 15 1/2, turned 16 got a girl friend that said she wouldn't ride in it. Sold it and bought a 57 Chevy for her. Biggest mistake I ever made. Dumped me 6 months later. What a pussy whipped punk. Thank God I didn't get her pregnant. Lessen learned, never again.
