I'm pretty sure Eric Brockmeyer designed the car at it's detail and obviously based on the OG Foose design.

It's Friday, the body's coming back from the paint shop today, all of the parts for the engine haven't arrived, no one showed up for work and the customer will be here this afternoon to pick it up.

    I don't know Gil.........I don't know Boyd.

All I know is when I see Boyd's work, I hate it.

.....when I was a kid back in school and someone would ride by on a VARIFLEX skateboard, we'd all laugh.

    .....nothing much has changed.

I wonder if my pal Ratster could sue Boyd for moniker infringement?
(moniker infringement....I just made that up)

Thank heavens there isn't a car named the "Tingler". I'd have to physically kick Boyd's ***. :D

ROFL, I think if he designed a car called "tingler" is would have to be all phallic shaped!

I seriously think it fits right in with some kind of disney land ride, too cartoonish and hemROYD Crotchington'd out.

  11. I dont really care who built the thing, its just ugly! the strtched out proportions, the overly laid back grill angle, and all the "up-dated"****!It reminds me of a full fendered version of a Plymouth Prowler, without the 5mph "rubber baby buggy bumpers". Boyds crew builds SOME very nice cars, even though most if his stuff is way overly style-ized and over done to my tastes. But to WANT his car to look like a "ratrod" or traditionaly styled car? NO F*ing WAY is he doing anything but following the "trick trend of the month club"! when pastel colors come back{after I'm dead,I hope}he will repaint his car to do that too. lotsa money, not much soul. just my 2 cents.

Seems strange that Roids Rotting-a-ton would build a car that didn't have paint and wheels, oh that's right, his painter quit and the wheel side has been sold off.

maybe this is what a traditional car will look like in 30 years?
at least its different to all the other boydster cars out there,he's taken a page out of the book of the guy who did that 37 coupe 'barn find' with the LS1 motor and the fake patina.

TD1932 answered my question about who did the sheetmetal. I've wondered who did the metalwork on some of the other cars that Boyd's has "built" since I've never seen anyone on the show doing anything like that. Boyd might be a builder but Marcel and Luc are artisans.

I know that I'm a new guy and I shouldn't disagree with an established HAMBer but that isn't a hot rod. It's a $150,000 hand built coach, on an aftermarket frame that was commissioned by the owner. The craftmanship maybe top notch and the car maybe very nice: but giving it a flat black paint job and a body that hints of hotrod does not make it a hotrrod. And I don't care if it's owned by Jim Thiebaud I'd say the same.

Well, you may just be too young to know much about the late 70's skate scene. Variflex was the **** at one point....way before Stacy Peralta or Santa Cruz ever dreamed of making skateboards. Gil sold out in '86 to pursue the RC car business with his you son, and the new owners of Variflex took the brand mainstream and right into K-mart stores.

We do have Cab posting on this board....he knows whats up...

This car was featured in Streetrodder. Looking back, what was funniest was that they had done all this work to mix the paint. Can you imagine taking time to mix paint to look like primer that is already available? Maybe I'm overlooking something, but it seems dumb to me. I, too, have first hand knowledge that this guy is a *****.

Who cares about Boyd? Hell the way I see it we all have our own ways of building cars or restoring them. I don't like the way his cars look and I don't really like his style for restoration of cars but he is one of the icons that are out there. He is never going away or his style either. But it is fun to bash on him.

And Losi is the **** in R/C.........
Gil Losi and Gil Losi Jr. were heros of sorts to me growing up racing R/C cars.....they ruled 1/8th nitro road racing! I remember when the JRX2 first came out and started beating all the RC10's...... I've had a few Losi cars....always respected their cars and parts.

    It's cool they're into hotrods, but I'm not suprised....:D

    True on all counts.

I'm too young to know anything about the late 70's skate scene.

Variflex was a K-mart piece of **** when I was into all that.

Yeah, Cab is on here.............and I don't see him driving a Boyd Coddington creation. (ouch that one's gotta hurt). :D

Cab does know what's up. :D

Pops Losi is one hell of a nice guy.
I believe you are wrong on one of your statements. Pops can't own the steel Boydster II. I doesn't exist anymore. The original Boydster II is now the OO32 (double O thirty-two). the two cars are one in the same. The story of how the those cars came to be was laid out to me by the man himself (chip).

Tough audience! A big wedge of louvers in the hood side would be cool.
