    Self discipline. Great job!

  4. Good job! That's how I tidy mine as well. Except, that estimated area is usually an average for the whole shop, but it is getting better.

  8. Good job! I shoot for 4 square feet at a time, and keeping a walkway through it all.

  9. I did the same last week , the power of an hour got it looking up to par. Best part is going in the next day to see that fresh look. A great motivator.

    Good job!

A man after my own heart.

Sometimes I take a day off just to admire the tidied up area, then I move on to another part of the shop. Unfortunately I then shuttle the clutter back to the area I just finished cleaning.

Got to get me one of those mops, though.

A squared away shop is the perfect cover for a diseased mind..you can fool the unsuspecting about the extent of your addiction.

Been drywalling my shop. Took down 2, twenty year old "temporary" sets of shelves. Moved the main set of shelves to another wall and built a two layer "dead head" shelf on wheels that I can park the coupster or MG under. I know where everything used to be.

  14. I was raised up with an organized garage with everything in place. Dad had a peg board all around the bench and sure knew when something was missing and not in it's place. My brother and I caught hell all the time !

Your looking good there ! Keep it up and - I'll bring some stuff over to store for me !

  15. Damn, now I’ll have to take tomorrow off and just admire the picture of a clean portion of your shop

I have an oversized (24' x 32') shop. I ran a welding shop out of the building at this location for 20 years. I retired in Oct 2018 and started cleaning up around here in spring of 2019.
By the end of 2020 I had the outside area pretty much cleaned up, and started on the inside of the shop around April 2021. Just yesterday I was able to park 2 vehicles in that shop for the 1st time in 20 years! Much of the welding equipment is still in the building as well. I had to take pictures of the two cars in the shop to prove it to my son!

The shop was set up to have an open work space for one vehicle with room to mover all around it. To get to the place to be able to fit two vehicles inside of this building was a major project. There is still areas that need attention, but a guy has to stop and see what has been accomplished every so often. Gene

I moved on tonight, found the bottom of my mill table ! @stillrunners , my dad was pretty fussy too. Many times he came home from work to find tools out in the driveway and raised hell with me, but sadly, it did not rub in. When I was working I could claim I didnt have time, but now retired and the same slob lives here with no excuse. Its funny, I really like it when clean, but...cant seem to make it a daily habit

Gonna try and move on, decisions to make. The press is actually still functional, you just have to stand back a bit and bend over to get the job done. The shop table is another matter. A friend who operates in the same disgusting manor as me, has shared many thoughts with me about when its time to clean the bench . it boils down to the "slope" angle. when you set down a wrench, and the pile, or slope angle, is too high, the tool will slide down hill and disturb the clutter on the floor. So, one must always maintain a slope angle which is less than the power of gravity. today, I just heard on the radio is national beer drinking day...so, i may ponder a bit. Trouble is, if i start on the table, you wont hear from me for a month. Which direction...press, or table ? IMG_0916.JPG IMG_0917.JPG

I have had years of training through profession with organization but it's really easy to have things get out of control...it's really a full time job to keep it tight...right now I'm behind the 8 ball a bit...but I'm working at it slowly...

  23. I suggest you go in the direction of the beer fridge and ponder the whole situation before you do anything rash!

So true, most times we collect stuff because it's generally useful so making bundles to sell off for a reasonable amount is a first option to just giving it away or dumping it...

Unfortunately it is a mixed bag generally...but it is a battle worth visiting and keeping under control...

Geez Dave, that would be like forced compliance "papers please!" ! looks good though. 401K hanging on the wall, I like it. My wife likes to pile a bunch of shit in front of the microwave door to move if you want to actually use the microwave...I dont like it, but I dont bitch too much because she has seen the shop

Rusty maybe she's hinting that that's how she feels when she goes to the garage to do something...:p
