I like that idea ^^^^ ! One of my most talented friends, with a spotless clean shop, always says " there should be nothing in the shop except tools" While I can see the point, I cant see it ever happening here

Well I'm still trying to get above 1 on the scale that most of you have established. I bought 80 pounds of drops from Metal Supermarkets yesterday. Hey it's a start, give me a break... I'm aspiring to mediocrity, not greatness like most of you guys!

@ Stogy, I think that is the first time I have seen the roof of your coupe from above! As I told you before , I intend stealing the whole concept down to the last rivet, actually, even moreso after you saying it is built like a bomber! and seeing that picture, its just a pity it had the junk important items to save, on top!
Do you have a link to when he built the car/roof?

If I have a really big mess, I start making piles.
    tools pile
    parts pile
    materials pile
    trash pile
Shit that does not belong in the shop and goes elsewhere pile
    And the absolutely necessary
"I don't know right now" pile

That of course is the "problem pile"

That "problem pile" is on the floor behind me in all these pics I have to admit. Its ok, I take a few Items out to the barn every morning, to make a different " I'm not sure" pile, and its all in the middle of my main bay so it will have to be dealt with before another car comes in. I took the night off last night, but I am going after the big table next...stay tuned !

If only our investments could grow at the rate that pile does.

I will share the link @97...Jerry's old thread is decimated by redx's but I repopulated the end of the Thread with some 2010 pics that I could find...

Here's a link to the build Thread and it seems some pics did survive...if you follow the Thread from this link there are other posts with additional pics and info...Jerry does real great Build Threads...

I will take a detailed group of pics for you...by the way this Hotrod shows well but is far from a showcar and you can trust me that I never maliciously throw or put anything that would dent or damage it anywhere...that said it is a handy place in my fight for real estate periodically...

Checking in for another JHL session to confess my sins. I got about 3 square feet of table down to where the bottom is in sight. I do tools first, stuff that has a home next, stuff that is open for debate next, then trash and scrap iron. will do nuts and bolts after the rest is gone. while this may not seem like earth shaking improvement to some, I have not seen the bottom for quite a while. That towel near the vise, was a clean towel set down to lay out clean transmission parts about 3 years ago. after the trans was done, it would start on fire when welding in the vise. after a while, once you get a good protective layer of junk there, the fire hazard diminishes. safty first ya know So here's a before and after for a good view. I'm not done...I'll be back. IMG_0917.JPG IMG_0931.JPG

Maybe he can't let the towel go. It's like what's his name in the peanuts cartoon and his blankie.

Look good Rusty now I see all kinds of good transmission parts along with steering box parts . It must be like Christmas in October finding all them parts.
Rusty throw out the towel and I will send you a nice piece of leather to protect the parts when building. Leather doesn’t burn and just gets better with age like JHA members:D

I used to work at a small company where the shop was in a separate building from the manufacturing facility. I used to keep that place spotless! Everything was organized, so if something had to be fixed, I could lay my hands on everything I needed to get the machinery up and running again in short order. I even mopped the shop floor every Friday afternoon before leaving for the weekend. Then somebody screwed me to get my job, and got another person rehired to work with him, and eventually got me fired. The last time I saw the shop, the place was a pig pen, with tools, materials, and assorted junk piled and scattered everywhere; you couldn't even SEE the floor! Funnily enough, the owner of the company tried to hire me back six months later after discovering the other two weren't competent, but I turned that offer down...

I've been TRYING to clean up but it's been a slow process. Yesterday I sold all the 371 and 394 Olds motors and parts I had to a fellow hammer Jason. Next is my SBC collection of blocks, cranks and heads all at bargain prices.

I realized my battery tools and hardware was scattered in multiple locations in the shop. So in a 4 - drawer filing cabinet they went. IMG_20211017_0004.jpg

Thats great, but how did you find space to add a 4 drawer cabinet?

Most people pile stuff 4 foot high. I use all the wall space available. Go buy pallet racks. Comes in very handy. With a row of filing cabinets underneath it. IMG_20211018_0001.jpg

  25. @1934coupe do you think Jason could use a 371 flywheel? I have one I would let go to help fund my project and it would be one less thing to move around the shop.

@stanlow69 , thats an impressive wall of drawers, how long does it take to remember which drawer the thing you want, that you know you have, is located ? Just kidding of coarse, you are doing better than me for sure. So now an update for my JHA confessions, you will see we are not done yet, but hey, the pile was about 12" deep, and I am near the bottom most of the way. Tonight, we'll see some of the long lost discoveries uncovered. Thank god, I found my copy of "The Magna Charta Sureties # 1215" what the hell that was here for...not sure . Must have been in my late mother's stuff. Anyone else have the problem of relative's thinking you have unlimited storage for them? Thats another story. So, also, you see a pick, not exciting you think? well, I have 3 or 4, and none when you need it, so yeah, I am excited. Next, a genuine Ford oil can I forgot I had. How about the cool 34 Oldsmobile tail light? and, on the book, a genuine champion spark plug tool for I have no idea what. Why is it here ? hope I didnt pay to much. The white faced thing is an aftermarket turn signal light, that has a couple solenoids inside that flip the parts around to make an arrow one way or the other. Another cool thing I brought home from a swap meet for no apparent reason, except to clutter the bench for a while. Also in sight, an old aftermarket tail light with glass lens. I like that stuff...for? So, thats it, next photo may be a shiny clean metal table...do ya think? IMG_0932.JPG

Don't know how some of you can build such cool rides in such a nasty environment. But I spend so much time cleaning and organizing I don't get much else done.
