ditch digging to be exact. Saw something interesting poking out of the side of a dry creek wash, appears to be a Dodge Bros roadster. I am slowly excavating it. I don't get much time to work on the dig and now I have to wait till spring again. So far what I've uncovered is not too bad. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3005/3107968805_9bab819f40.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3054/3107971143_5476b97b7c.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3288/3107953757_4f7b204b1c.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3113/3107998537_9863c9a7d3.jpg
I'm sure it looks better than it really is, but if it reallys looks that decent, you could have enough to build off of. Atleast a good start to a project that is.... Pics:
I would love to run across something like that around here but i'm sure if i looked hard enough i could.
I think that I would have had it home by now. If someone else finds it you might be shit out of luck! On the other hand.....I see that is an old dump! I sold a stoneware turn of the century ginger beer bottle for over $1500.00 that I dug out of an old dump. Watch for older blob top or stoneware bottles while you dig and you might get really lucky!
I have to say it was my plan to have it home by end of summer..... but it's a real dog digging it out. There was a whole bunch of barbed and chicken wire wrapped around it an other junk all tangled. There's not much room to move around in that wash either. Not to mention that it's a two hour drive one way from where I live... I've spent three afternoons on it so far, and now I'm down to the more difficult digging. From what I have learned there was an old barn that was torn down in the mid 60s or so and most of the garbage in and around this car is from the mid 60s and later so I think that is when it was dumped. The house has not been lived in since about late 60s or so. The bulk of the garbage consists of 1) canadian mist bottles 2) beer cans 3) maple syrup cans 4) orange juice concentrate cans 5) old barbed wire and chicken wire Must have been interesting people who live there! Tombat
Wow so where exactly is that located then i think my ass would still be out there diggin to make sure it came home with me and not some other sucker who runs across it by accident after all your hard work.
Is there just one car in there or is that what looks to be a T in the first pic just what you uncovered of the car first.Cause in the last pic it looks like a different car.
There's not much chance of anyone else finding it. It is several miles back on a dirt (not gravel, but real dirt) road. It's also not visible from the road, it was pure chance that I scrambled up the dry creek bed in the first place. Even if someone did find it they would have a tough time getting it out. The people who own the land run sheep and cattle there and are there feeding and checking on their animals daily and they know I am "in process" on the excavation. But, I understand your concern! I'd charge $500.00 just for my labor so far! Tombat
Slickster: just one car, it's at a funny angle so the progress pics end up being taken from above on the bank or down in the ditch. It's a Dodge Bros roadster but I don't know how to tell what year exactly. By the way, I'm not telling where it is, other than somewhere in eastern Washington!
So it is just one body then.Wow thats pretty crazy. I understand not sayin where its at i just didnt see where you were located so i wondered.
Thats a cool find! I "found" some cars on a place my buddy owns last year but they are not buried, just rusted up. 2 impalla 4 dr a 64 and I think a 61, a ford starliner, 3 53 or 54 ford sedans, 62to 64 ford galaxie 500 vert, late 30s 1 or 2 to truck on it's side and a few other non interesting cars and trucks.
Amazing find. Reminds me of the hamber that found a stolen 60s sedan in a way of corner of his property ? I remember it had a wheel broken off and had been there for years and he did,nt even know it.
Saw something interesting poking out of the side of a dry creek wash it is amazing you found it . congrats ..................... steve
How did that not get used for something? Even for back then just to throw that away, i dont get it. If its that nice now, imagine what it looked like then.
I'm shocked at how good it still looks. If you get this out in one piece and build it it'll be some of the best before and after pictures in history.
Holy hell! Great find Tombat! Now if you could only find an early hemi poking out of the dirt next to it.
That is soooo cool! I certainly hope you get to build it because the story (and pictures) of what you started with will be really cool to tell over nad over again. You're the only guy I know that started his build with a shovel!
"There was a whole bunch of barbed and chicken wire wrapped around it an other junk all tangled." Sounds like they put it there to stop soil erosion, I believe that was a common practice back then.
