Back in the mid-60s my uncle was living at home and he bought a used '64 409/425 SS, white-on-white. My grandfather would occasionally borrow it to go work the second shift at Blaw-knox near Pittsburgh. Many years later he admitted to having that 120 mph speedo pegged running down rt. 28. :)

I guess parents can abuse their kids cars too... ;)

So being a young'un I don't have any stories about classics that'll make you drool but I can say that on more than one occasion I had a little bit too much fun driving my dad's '04 subaru WRX in the snow. If you've never tried it go to the dealership on a snowy day and take one for a test drive :) I've also had a few close calls driving my 65 stang a little beyond its limits...

My best friend's dad had a new (1963) Olds Jetfire & new (1965) Olds 442. His mom had a '55 T-bird. Need I say more? (P.S. My first ticket was from a state cop when I was peacefully driving the T-bird..the statey had a '62 Chevy 2-door post.)

  6. Our family didn't have anything cool to drive or anything with any power, but you can rest assured my kids will be beating the shit out of my vehicles in 8 more years. (the oldest is 8).

Dad had an old 64 Olds Dynamic 88 with a 394. It was the car my older sister and I got to learn to drive with. I remember one time telling Dad the Olds didn't have any power. He took off and went to his friends house and did the "super tune" and came back home to "show me" how well it ran. The next Friday night I was out with the Olds, it ran pretty good.... The next morning I went out to go to work and the car wouldn't move! Stupid Olds, dad made me buy the replacement transmission, now how was that fair? Then there was the time I was ran off the road, went through the ditch and took out 20' of fence. So the road was gravel and I was 100 yards from an intersection, whats your point?

After I bought my first car, dad helped me change the 1st engine. He helped me change the 2nd one too. He told me I was on my own for the 3rd one. Stupid Buicks, they have bad engines.

Fast forward about 20 years. My son seems to have some strange things happen to the car I gave him to drive too. One day the exhaust fell off. Problem was, it was a 3 month old exhaust system, and all the hangers were broken. He had someone run him off the road once too. He took my 4x4 truck to school once, when he came home, the top of the box side was dented up. Someone in school hit him in the parking lot.....The dent was about 4' off the ground.

After he bought his first car, I helped him change his 1st engine. I think it was a transmission in his 2nd car.

Its all Ok though, he has a 2 year old now. I'm sure when the time comes, there is going to be some strange things happen to his cars. God gave you children to repay you for what you put your parents through. Gene

My Mom had a new '67 440 GTX; what'dya think?

  18. I had to buy my own and insure it but a buddy of mine came knocking on my door one night(1957) and wanted me to help nim steal his old man's car. His dad and mom had gone bowling and Steve thought it would be neat to take his dad's 54 Ford for a little ride. We pushed the car out of the driveway and down the street about a half block before we started it. I was the only one that had a license so I drove the car out of town.
We got out in the country and Steve says he wants to drive and he assures me that he has driven a lot so I let him get behind the wheel. He gets in, revs the motor to about 100,000 RPM and dumps the clutch. Guess what, he shells 1st and reverse gear and we have to get the car back to town so I drive it back in with only 2nd and 3rd gear. We park the car in the same place that it was parked in when this whole deal started and went on our way. Well Steves dad gets home and does not notice anything. The next day he gets in the car and puts it in reverse and it does not move. Puts it in 1st and nothing. I will never forget Steves dad's yell. STEVEN!!! I lived about a half block from Steve and I heard the yell. Well, Steve Had to replace the tranny and to this day I don't think that his dad knows what really happened. Sadly Steve took this story to his death. He died about 2 years ago. Good BUDDY.
    Later,
    Dick

I turned 16 in January of 1957 and I don't know what came over my dad but he bought his first new car ever, a '57 Chevy Hardtop, 283V8 with power pack (duals and a 4-barrel for you younger ones) with a Powerglide transmission. He finally let me drive it near the end of the school year and the first day I was drag racing from a stop light and dropped the Powerglide tranny. Not a happy dad, nor a happy son. Later that same summer he sent me to get some small parts at a local Chevy dealer downtown and I convinced him to let me drive the 57. I was about a block from the dealer when I spied this good looking gal in shorts and while checking her out proceeded to drive the passenger fender under a double parked delivery flat bed truck. Another difficult one to explain and costly for me. Bad at the time but good memories now.

Dad bought Mom a new Buick Grand National in '86. Mom wanted me to take her to the dealership to pick it up. When we got there, she wanted ME to take her for a ride in it before we took it home....? I was reluctant, but was so excited about getting that car, I went along with her plan. I just cruised up the road real easy. When we got a mile or so from the dealership, she said.... Alright, lets see what you are so excited about. I acted dumb (of coarse), but it didn't work. So I brought the boost up and let it eat.... BAD MOVE! When we got back to the dealership, she politely told the salesman that she wanted the Century T-type 4-dr. Not that stupid hot rod! Dad was pissed off, but it was her call.

My mother had a '54 Buick Super 2Dr Hardtop. Dark met green top, seafoam green bottom. A bitchin' car!
I did abuse it, I did, I did, at the tender age of 13/14. Chili Phil remembers it I'll bet.
Now, when I abuse anything, all that happens is my de-fib unit goes off, and shocks the shit out of me! pigpen

Like this one, with the colors reversed.[IMG]

  25. It was a 59 Rambler American or the 54 Jeep wagon, left with that choice I chose to buy my own to abuse

In high school I used to jump my mom's newer at the time Buick Lesabre off of railroad tracks...at 70 mph one time. That Dyna ride really sucked up the impact. I wouldnt do that anymore though..it was pretty stupid.

  28. I used to roast the recap snows on the old mans 1964 4door Valiant. Had a 273 v8 push button automatic. I would wind her up to about 3500 RPMs and push the low button and smokem ablock then hit the button and cruise.:D:D:D:D

  29. I learned to drive in my dads 60 Ford.I used to like to coast with the ignition off and then cut it back on coming to a stoplight to make it backfire. My dad put a new muffler on it and about a week later I did that and exploded it.Used to like to put it in neutral and then rev it up and pull it down in park to peel out.I feel real bad about that now because we were poor and I didn't know it.He really couldn't afford to fix my stupid crap. But as a consequence, I grew up and took good care of everything I owned and taught my kids to also.
