There was a junk-yard located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire (Banfield Junkyard) that has a deal for high schools kids to come in and buy a complete car along with everything you could stuff in it. I pulled a 50 Merc with a drive train from a 68 Chevy along with the rearend all for 100 bucks. You could buy any car in there for 100 dollars. Of course this was back in the late 60s.

This was pretty far gone when I got it. I literally saved it--the property was bulldozed shortly after.

I didn't know that the Galaxie I'm working on was so far gone, so, yeah, it's just a notch above scrap. Got too much invested in it to give up on it. Time AND money. By inches I go miles, so they say.

    Depnds how you see death
My t bucket the kid I got it from had been convinced all it needed was the steering column taken out and hooked back up to the steering box...
Steering box was broken and needed replaced, brake MC was full of rust as were all the lines, front axle was bent, front spindle bent, tie rod bent, frame bent 3 directions, battery was about to fall out of the floor (drywall screws arent for automotive use) and the body was held to the frame by a few wires. Pretty sure he would have died if he had done what he thought it needed to be roadworthy again

  5. Saved a 36 Cord that had been in a building when it burned down, got a 41 Graham (same) body and grafted on the roof, doors, etc every thing except the cowl, made a nice Cord that is still around today.

My c10 was a save from someone else, but it's OT by a few years for the hamb. I got it really cheap, and I saw the guy that sold it to me one day when I was driving it, and I think he was pretty mad at himself. Stuff he thought was far gone actually didn't require that much, and when I sold it I pocketed a good deal of cash...

Lou, currently working on an abandoned 32 Ford sport coupe. Some one had cut off the windshield and quarter posts then robbed all the good parts. Have been repairing little by little over the past year. Not the most desirable body style but I could not let it get cut up for the remaining parts. Car is now in primer.

Actually I have been accused of it
More than once. The 60 sedan I started off this project with was entirely misrepresented. Although I do wish I had saved the trunk floor. It graced me with enough good parts to get a good start on my 60 Galaxie. 20210103_145928.jpg

In 2005 my '57 Chevy was in a dealer auction and a scrapyard had come in and put a minimum bid of $275 on any car, so the starting bid on everything was $300 and if it didn't bring that, the scrap guy got it. I was the only bidder at $300. It was a 4 door at that point, but still.

My 33 was bulldozed into a ravine , outside of a small town in northern nevada sometime in the 50's - 60's. They used to have city cleanup days where they'd haul off the junkers for free . I got it in 1981 started building it as a restoration , Divorce stopped progress in 86. it sat until January 99 when I decided to cut it up and put it back together as a different body style.

  22. Dad and I started with a picked over 1937 Dodge coupe parts car in 2011. When it arrived, the first thing I thought was oh fuck, now what are we going to do with this POS? lol. To this day Dad looks at the before pictures and wonders what he saw in it. She has come a long way in a few years. 1937 dodge delivered 2.JPG 1937 dodge III.jpg 1937 dodge blasted III.JPG Dodge 12-11-2015 II.jpg 118155181_3398689253487498_4649662325566146579_o.jpg 18177.jpeg

All but the last one are junkyard rescues. The ‘55 Pontiac went to another home. The ‘55 Chevy is my first car, nearly no body panels are original, nor drivetrain, nor interior. The car theoretically shouldn’t still exist. I believe that it was pulled from a junkyard, pieced together, and then drag raced. The ‘50 Fleetline is my weekend car. The ‘46 Fleetmaster is a driver that needs the last bugs worked out. The ‘52 Special is a work in progress. The last one, a 53 Buick, is a rough beach car that I bought as a donor car that someone else started taking apart, the jury is still out on it. 53A68F74-F8D1-43FC-AB56-C9460D5AB22B.jpeg EF884940-6912-4F22-A2E3-03F319C375C5.jpeg FBD83803-DA09-4931-97D3-3197F7B5C834.jpeg 42B043E0-3817-4302-90DC-B829CE2BBD23.jpeg 2475FBBE-A576-499B-A2F5-D4FC98D7FC67.jpeg F118368B-D638-40A6-A8D2-049F0E41BDB2.jpeg

One step from the crusher via the local tow company. Friend bought it from him, sold it a short while later to a guy wanting to build it back. He shoots, SAVE!

Just about everything on this guy was bound for the scrap yard. Good thing my pops and I are tin hoarders. Frame was in a rancher friends field and was going to get scrapped, cowl was found rotting in the Black hills of South Dakota, farm-all gas tank junk for holding fuel but is a perfect track nose and the 50 ford trunk lids were found on the banks of a stock dam used for soil erosion in south central South Dakota. 167F6E41-CED3-4532-95F8-72D4F1880711.jpeg 09C88809-59D5-465E-BED2-C417A1F640EB.jpeg 05A88561-EF95-474D-91F7-180D7FB3DFE6.jpeg DC8D160C-9FFD-460C-9A18-E8E6559DEC45.jpeg 4F833948-C069-4871-AE80-C99C280E0A51.jpeg 70CCBAED-245C-430F-BA5D-971BCD6EC617.jpeg
