Just another Cookie Cutter car now.

  3. the car has always been a on-going project, my favorite version is the Tony Danza Hollywood Knights version circa '82..... The car is kinda tasteless now in my opinion.

Not my favorite version of that car. In fact, every previous version was much better.

My cross ram engine is almost entirely based on the parts list they used when the car was featured on the cover of Popular Hot Rodding way back in (I think) 1967. The cover shot is a great pic of someone tuning the dual Holley cross ram engine.

I don't care for the newest version myself. I do think the" Hollywood Knights version" was the best look for the car. Just my .02

I agree, thought they dropped the ball on this one... What's up with those wheels anyway? They look dated already... The only thing that I thought was cool in the article was the reworked hood trim/bullets that now function as the air inlets instead of just decoration, if I remember correctly.

It's like taking the 55 from Two Lane Blacktop and building a Pro Touring corner craver. I don't like it and the Hollywood Knights model was cool.

I just read the whole thread you posted. I had a little laugh when i read the line the PHR Editor wrote about it being "thier" car to do what they want with...
It is ABSOLUTELY 'thier' car to do what they want with..
But what i found amusing in that statement was that car would be NOTHING if it wasn't for the reader's of that mag, that fan base of Project X..
For me, that car, circa '79 Hollywood night's style is the one and only reason i bought a 57 when i was a kid..had a 4 speed in it and ran Cragars..
Although i know it's the same car, same vin, for me it no longer has the soul it once had.
When i look at the current pics, i feel like if it could talk it would be saying "WTF did they do to me! HELP!"

But, that's just my own thought's...everything changes, we can't expect all thing's cool to stay..maybe someday it will be changed again with a little homage paid to it's history.
I'll remember it like this......or my favorite, with the Cragars...no pic though...

I didn't like the new version either. But then I remembered that it will be changed again some day and all that high dollar junk will be gone. I guess that the car is like building a sand castle. A new wave comes and changes it all.

I liked it when it had the fuel injected bigblock in it. Probably late 60's. Seems like they tried a clutch-flite or clutch-turbo in it too.

I have the two first mag's of Project X from '65 when they first bought it...many many changes in that car's life for sure......the latest ****S..personally speaking anyway.
    I guess i'm very narrow minded and that's why i really don't like the new look...yep, i'm narrow minded....can't help it and i don't care :)

Project X is now a "Donk."

Well, I hope they like it. I think it looks like all the other yellow street rods with blingin wheels and a GM crate motor in it, barf.

Unfortunately they have to do things to draw traffic. To a website, to pick up a magazine.

It does say something I guess about those running the show. But it is sort of like the radio talking head taking up a position he doesn't really believe in or care about just to get people to call in.

Yes it's ugly but we are talking about it.

They keep working on it, and it neccessarily changes. They got an offer (that they couldn't refuse) to have the GM guys work on it, and it came out as they intended. The workmanship I looked at in the current issue is beautiful. But don't expect them to take it back to a street-strip car that looks like it came out of the staging lanes at Lions. They already did that.

I'm pretty sure the current version isn't my personal taste, but all that stuff designed by real engineers should give a great jumping-off point for the next iteration.
