I watched the show, read the articles in the magazines and yes I have all of the issues of Pop Hot Rod with the car in it but I think they took a worn out beat to death car and did a great job on it.
From seeing the photos of the Ch***is it was pretty well hammered and had so many scabs on it from previous changes that 90% of the guys who just posted complaining about the changes would have junked the frame and got a fresh one.
I didn't like several phases of it. Mostly when it was more of a drag car than a street car. Outside of a few details I like this one although I would put more traditional wheels on it even though they would have to be big enough to clear the brakes.

I made a post about this car a few weeks back when I was looking for early pictures of it in various versions. My biggest pet peave with the car is the rear rims. I recently read the article on the new version and remember it saying GM thought the rearend was in the wrong position (from a previous build) and they had to relocated it this time around. It looks to me like they ****ed it up with its new placement (the tires are supposed to be towards the front of the rear wheelwell to look right).. So much is so wrong with the new car, sits way to hi, the rear rims are two wide (is it pro st or pro touring) and place to far rearward... the new exhaust... its obvious the guys at GM has lost their touch and are not fully understanding the new Pro touring look (***uming that is what they were going after)

I hope the next version comes quickly and this version does not stick around for the next decade.

Give me the early version anyday..

  5. As a true bowtie guy I hate to say it but............. GM could **** up a wet dream! Their design teams/directors have been out to lunch for the last 25 years. Thank God GM didnt redo the ALA KART! The guys that did redo the KART did GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took a second look at the photos old and new, I still don't like it.
It ****s that the car has always been a 210. The new custom trim is overkill, over dressed, Belair look'en ****. I liked the minimalistic appearance of the 210.

Everything up until now has been stuff that the average joe could have pulled off in his garage. That was part of the appeal for me. Now it's got a bunch of unobtanium parts on it, and...<shrug> just not the same.

Kinda like the story about the old hammer. "It was my great-great-great grandpas, and the head has been replaced tiwce and the handle 6 times, but it's still the same hammer..."

It ain't the same car anymore.

I've seen the old versions too, but am not too fond of this one. The deep offset on the rear wheels make the car look top heavy when you compare the m*** of the car to the big empty space in the center of the wheel. The exhaust holes in the front fenders also look like a bit of an afterthought. Hopefully the next incarnation will be a better one.

the Hollywood Knights version was the best hands down. they did everything wrong with this version, if the ch***is was that bad off then yeah build another one or find a real nice one for it, but dont trash the rest of the car cause you know how to. whats next, riding on 32's DONK style with Lambo door kits?

The day big ole 'donk' wheels, sorry...'rims', go away cannot come soon enough!
I'm going to do my '57 with the Hollywood Knights version as a template. Won't be yellow, have cut up 1/4s and maybe no front bumper. Have a blown small block too...my own interpretation. Isn't that what it's all about?
It will NEVER look like the 'new' Project X! BLECCH!!!

I really liked the Hollywood Knights version of the car.

This new version is just another street-rodded 57 with billet wheels. Might as well go all-out fairgrounds cruiser and put in the crate 350, turbo 350 trans, Vintage Air A/C, and all of the cookie cutter Flaming River billet steering column/wheel **** in there too!

The HUGE billet wheels on old cars thing is getting old!

  13. I don't like the latest iteration of the car either, I wished they would have just started with a new project car.

It was at the Autorama, and nearly everyone that looked at it was absolutely Underwhelmed.

It's not what I am into and I doubt that many of you are either because you are on the HAMB and not whatsthelatesttrend.com. The car does, as it always has, followed the current trends.

Magazines are run by businessmen. Businessmen want and like to earn money via advertisers. Scan Hot Rod or Car Craft and look at the people that advertise. I don't see many "traditional" companies pushing ladder bars or cheater slicks. When was the last time you saw Moon advertise? Magazines depend on new trends and products to write about and are given parts by manufactures that just happen to have a full page ad right next to the latest test of their "new" intake manifold that increased horsepower by a whopping 1.5HP. The guys that write the stories are car guys but they have a magazine to sell which means pandering to the largest audience which right now is the pro touring bunch. Do I like it? NO Will 80% of the clingons like it? YEP.

Project X will never be what it was because those days and people are unfortunately gone. It has an aluminum big block (that I can't afford)which is pretty cool. We will have to wait until the next trend comes around for it to change again.

    My .02 cents.

When will these people ever learn. Don't update a historical car to a modern rendition.
    Damit!
They should have built another '57 to that extent and restored Project X to one if it's former glories.
    Leave it to GM...............

yep they ruined it. Its not even the fact that it had alot of history and they ruined it, but its ugly now no matter what car it was.. the wheels are hideous and the way it sits is just not right...blah...

Yes... with a 2x4 283, and stock-ish interior. I really liked that car.
