I have a 1948 ford convertible with no****le and a 1948 ford coupe with****le. I was thinking of swapping frames. Is this possible? Looks like diamensions are the same. Is the 48 convertible frame heaver then the coupe and sedan frame. I know 1940 ford convertible frame was heaver to support body below door. Thanks for any help.
The Convertible Frame Is Made From Slightly Thicker Metal But The Dimensions Are The Same....Proceed...
If I use the coupe frame with little thinner metal will it cause problems with doors and top operation?
Unless the convertible frame is rotted, why not just get a new****le that matches the numberson the frame?
Having owned a lot of rag tops, If you swap them, I would reinforce the frame a bit. Especially in the center, a good plate across the trans mount area below the frame is nice and I would maybe do some boxing around the cowl support to prevent cowl wobble. It may be just fine without any of this, but this is what I would do if it were mine.
Convertible frames had extra reinforcement to make up for the lack of a roof. The sedan/coupe bodies depended on the roof as part of the structural strength that helped prevent body twist and distortion. If using a convertible body, you should use the matching type of frame. All body types will fit on either frame, however.
