Differences between 32 and 34 Ford beds?

Hey guys I'm starting a new project soon and researching some of the details. I'm picking up a 34 cab that has been chopped 6 inches and I'm most likely going to channel it over a 32 frame. For the sake of getting the project done quicker I'm considering purchasing a new bed from MAC for it.

What are the differences between a 32 and 34 bed? Is it just external dimensions? Would a 32 fit much easier onto a 32 frame or is the bed mounting universal enough not to really matter? If it's an external dimension difference can someone list the dimensions for both year beds?

    Thanks.

If Im not mistaken, the difference is length of bedside and bolt holes for the fenders. Someone will chime in and know for sure.

32 and 33-34 beds are the same length and width. They use the same front panel and tailgate. The difference is where the fender bolts, as the 33-34 was longer wheelbase, so the fender is 5" further back on the bedside. I used a 33-34 bed on my 32 pickup and shortened it 5" in the front...

Ok that's good info. If I'm going to run a 34 cab on a 32 frame which would be the proper length bed to fit over the wheels properly? I guess if I'm custom mounting everything it wouldn't really matter? I won't be running fenders.

If you are using a 32 frame, you'd want a 32 bed...and most likely shortened in the rear. They are REALLY long in the *** end stock.

I bet that 25% of the registered 32 Ford P/Us at the rod runs have 34 cabs.

Yeah I'm going to want a slightly shorter bed to go with the open front end look but not one of those stubby little deals. Thanks again for the help guys.

You might consider just fabbing your own bed, with (possibly) a period tailgate. After all is said & done, it's easier, more enjoyable & cheaper. It's not rocket science & there are some good threads here on it. ~ As a side note, you might consider tweaking the 6" chop & channel if you're any bigger than a munchkin. Again, there are some threads on this here. Just do some reading on it before you start cutting. Good luck, have fun & keep us posted.

Yeah the channel may or may not happen. I'd really like to have the frame hidden below the cab but we'll see. The chop is already done so that's not much of a choice.

If you decide to fab your own bed, I advise to take the time/effort and put the beads in the bed-sides like the originals. Without those beads, the bed just doesn't mate with the cab, visually. Maybe it's just me, but no no beads = no cool. Just my opinion, I mean no offense to anyone.

The 60" bed length does seem to look proportionally right on the truck. I like it!

I agree, beads make all the difference.
