I was wondering what the difference between a 55 vs a 56 is ?I ran in to a small problem, Lmc has to different parts listing for hood hinges and hood bolts. So last fall i ordered hood hinges and bolts for a 56 from lmc and the bolts i have are the wrong thread. So maybe my hood is from a 55, But before i order the bolts for a 55 i was wondering if any one could confirm that the shoulder hood bolts on a 55 are different then a 56. And if anyone knows any other problems i could may encounter. I would hate to buy almost 2 of everything. Thanks Jason
The 53-55 use a smaller shoulder bolt and smaller wavy washer than the 56. It is the diameter of the shoulder, I am pretty sure the thread is the same. The hole in the hinge is smaller as well on the 53-55. I have seen more than a few hoods that someone has threaded course thread bolts into the original fine thread holes and made their own threads buggering up the whole deal.
thats what i was thinking but i wanted to make sure. I got the correct hinge and correct bolt but the bolts from lmc were the wrong thread. I guess i will have to fix that. Thanks
The hinges are different on a 56, the geometry of the arms changed to allow for the 56 hood to raise up higher to clear the windshield. You can use 56 hinges on a 53-55 but not vice versa. Other differences are gas tank, battery/tray/cover, windshield, air deflectors, valence, headlights/doors, cab sheetmetal, etc...
