I have a friend on the '57 forum who is installing an AOD in his '57 Fairlane/312. His ****** mounting points are 3 1/2-4" back further than mine or other members who have done the same also on a 312. I seem to recall in the back of my head about an AOD not to use, maybe because the mounting point was as his is??? Any thoughts on this? Truck ******??

Thanks for the info, Jeff. He bought the core from a transmision shop, who also rebuilt it for him, so I have to believe what he has is a standard AOD. My 4R70W has a C dimension 1" longer and my mounting holes for the ****** ended up in the same spot as the oem ****** mounting holes..........within 1/16". I'm trying to get my head wrapped around this, because if my case's mounting holes were at the AOD's dimension, I would have had to move the crossmember forward and inch, and he's saying he has to move his back 3 1/2"-4" !? All else being the same, I can't figure out how he even got the ****** under the tunnel without hitting alot of sheetmetal.

My '54 has an AOD & 302 from a 1984 MK VII you can see the AOD on the factory cross member in my album: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/media/albums/289-302-351w-swap-mounts.41498/ The picture below shows an AOD on a 1952-53 cross member using a Butch's 302 kit,the mount for a C4 comes out in front of the cross member so you have to fabricate a mounting plate there are pictures of that from members way back in the archives.

Maybe the excess offset to the rear can be attributed to the AOD Conversion plate?

Hahaha......I'm still waiting for him to post his progress. He's the engineer type....even did a cad cam of his linkage he had to mod. I'd be really surprised if he was wrong in what he calculated for the ****** mount, but I can't figure anything that would make what he came up with making sense.
Yes, the adapter comes into play. It is 2" thick. His aod mounting holes are 1" shorter than my 4r70W according to the diagram Jeff posted. So, to my figuring that makes him an inch long than where my holes are. He is moving the mounting holes 4.5 (or 4.25)back. My bellhousing is only an inch or so from the firewall, so if my brain is working, there's no way his bellhousing is gonna clear the firewall.....by several inches! He says it was test fit after tacking the crossmember together. Only other thing that would explain it is if the chart Jeff posted is wrong, or my brain isn't functioning properly, which is the more logical explaination..

To summarize what I said last night.......per the chart, my ******'s holes are an inch further back than his. I also had to move my engine/****** back(from where I wanted it) an inch or so to clear my rack. Those two "inch" differences luckily worked out so that my ****** lined up with the oem crossmember holes almost EXACTLY.....no more than 1/16" off if that.
I I had an AOD ******, it would have been an inch short of reaching the crossmember, and one with a 2" adapter would have been beyond it by an inch.
