He already has the firewall set back.....If it were mine,I would use an FE .Some of the truck pans were rear sump,I just sold one to another HAMBer.They are torque monsters and look super cool. Not seen every day...not the easiest installation mind you but it doesn't sound like your pops is afraid of a little work.If I were just building my '40 coupe today,It would have the 406 in it.

Go with an FE, a Cleveland, or a 289 if you want to run a Ford. Don't forget the MEL 430 too. I'm a Chevy guy by nature, but if I see another under the hood of something besides a Chev I'm going to puke. They're too generic. Even early motors since it so easy to retro-dress a 350. I have a 348 w-motor I've been saving for years for just the right project. How about a 259 Stoodie?

Pontiac. You've already got the firewall clearance and you can get lots out of one for not too much money. A good stock 389/455 will do just fine, but there's lots more available too.

Dimebag, I fully agree with rainh8r. drop a 389 / turbo400 combo in that coupe and never look back. I have been toying with the idea of pulling the belly ****on out of my 36 and slidding a poncho in for a while now. It is just difficult to tear a perfectly good car apart , hopefully the chevy will pop soon so it will be easier. Do it, those pontiacs run forever and are torque monsters. Mitch.

There were just certain trucks that had a rear sump pan.I can't remember which years or 2wd,4wd, etc.I'm no expert, but I know they did make some.Gotta get the pickup for it too.
