If you have anything (cast iron) that needs repair, I would
strongly suggest that you consider Cast Iron Mike in
Marysville, WA (north of Seattle). He has been doing this
for decades. I have seen evidence of him going three layers
deep inside an old engine block, doing the repair, then
coming back out and doing the successive repairs to the
first and second layers. In one of my projects, I had a
1912 Buick engine block that earlier had been brazed
back together. The entire side of the block had popped
into nearly a dozen pieces due to freezing. He took
it all apart, removed all the brazing material and then
welded everything back together. He finishes smooth
then stipples with a power tool to match the original
finish. It was near impossible to spot any evidence of
    the extensive repairs.

The reason for my bringing this up as a topic is that economic
times are difficult and many of us here in the NW do not
want to lose this resource. If you want to get some
cast iron welding done but think... I will get around to it
someday.... then now is that day. You can contact Mike
at 360-657-7660. His shop is located at
    Cast Iron Repair Specialists
16129 Smokey Point Blvd, Ste A,
    Marysville, WA 98271

AAH, he may have been the one who did the repair I was shown on an expensive and hard to find diesel cylinder head a few years ago were a section was cut out and a replacement section welded in. There was some serious work involved in that one from the series of photos I saw of the damaged head to the final finished head I saw.

Mike's welding ability is very impressive!

I just got the fins repaired on these motorcycle cylinders (Henderson) Cast-Iron-Cylinder-Repair.jpg
You can't tell where they were damaged when he is done.

He had all kinds of cracked cast iron blocks & heads that we was repairing as well.
