The 1954 Corvette is all original - - the odometer reads only 2331 actual miles but the story doesn't end there. This store was built with an extra room... a brick vault that was home to the White 1954 Corvette for over a quarter of a century. It was his wish in Mr. Sampson's will, that the car remain sealed in brick until the year 2000. However, under new ownership in 1986, They asked that it be removed and returned to the family. Richard's daughter, Cynthia Sampson then took it to Florida and parked it in her living room for approximately 10 years.

This Corvette will be displayed with a placard in honor of Mr. Richard Sampson which was part of the acquisition negotiation with Mr. Sampson's daughter, Cynthia. It is probably the oldest lowest mile unrestored Corvette in the world. Bloomington Gold invited this 1954 Corvette to be displayed in the 1996 Special Collection XIII... "The Cl***ics 1953-1962."

You know, the ironic thing is that they have determined that paper products buried way over 50 years ago in landfills are still not decomposing. I saw some type of show where they dug down into a New York City dump, far enough to have reached back into the time when 40's garbage was first buried...and the newspapers were preserved...and perfectly readable. Some fruits and veggies were still descernable- hardly any rot.

Maybe instead of using all their "space age materials and precautions" it would have been better preserved by just burying it under tons of garbage...:D

And....what's with all the secrecy- the police tape- the tarps on the fence? Seems odd. General consensus is that is destroyed...so why all the secrecy drama? To keep people from demanding their money back on all those sold tickets (scam) and the Gov't losing all that revenue (funding)?

Wrong, it would have floated IF the bag had remained sealed, and the water was deep enough. There is a lot of empty space in a car. That's why a car with it's windows rolled up doesn't sink instantly when it is driven into a lake or swimming pool. The water takes a while to leak into the interior, trunk, etc. and displace the air inside. My take on that tear in the plastic by the left rear fin is that, when water first started leaking into the vault, the plastic bag/car tried to float, but encountered something sharp on the bottom of the car which pierced the plastic (exhaust pipe clamp, shock absorber bolt, cotter pin in a castle nut on the pitman arm, etc). Once the plastic was punctured water would start to leak into the bag from the bottom, and would force the remaining air up into the top of the bag, which probably remained sealed for a while. This would cause a large bubble of air at the top of the bag, with an incredible amount of upward lift (try to push a balloon under water). This bubble eventually pulled on the bag enough, all of the slack was gone, and a sharp point (fin?) pushed through the bag.

There's a 56 vette on the bottom of Wasilla Lake in Alaska. fell through the ice back in the 60's I think probably in 40-50 feet of really cold water. I always wanted to get it but I guess the silt is horrible down there.

I got this in the e-mail this morning. Some of these only people from Tulsa will understand.

Top 10 "Plan B's" for the Belvedere Crypt

    10. Develop into a wetlands
    9. Expand the crypt to the Arkansas River and create the "Belvedere
    Channels"
    8. Open the "Belvedere Aquarium" to compete with Jenks
    7. Open the "Belvedere Mental Health Clinic" to treat all the new cases of depression in Tulsa.
    6. Forget the Dirty Icecube, move the city offices into the crypt.
    5. Proclaim Tulsa the "Flooded Car in a Crypt Capital of the World"
    4. Start filming "Belvedere Thirteen"
    3. Bottle and sell "Uncle Belvedere Elixir" from the crypt water
    2. Bury a BOAT for 2057
    1. Give the driver a proper burial

  14. The suspense is killing me and I won't be home to watch the webcast. Looks like I will have to check the sammich later this evening for the unbiased report. Till then I will keep checking these threads and posting gibberish.

Not necessarily. It's still dependent on the m*** of the car in relation to the m*** of water displaced.

think about this, how ****ing hilarious would it have been if someone dug a holeunder the street to the ba*****t of some other building. knowing they had 50 years to get that tunnel dug and the car out! lol!!! i mean if american soldiers dug tunnels out of the pow camps in ww2 with the nazi's watching over them and at night. then someone shurly could have dug out that car.

someone pops the lid 50 years later and ********* HAHAHAHA! man would that be priceless!

  19. Quick question...
I just read through the article about what they placed inside the car again, Why would a woman carry "a bottle of tranquilizers" in her purse??? No wonder kids were respectful back then!

I got kicked off of the live broadcast. I think they're having way too much traffic for there site. I'm back on and it's trying to find the feed.
