The subject line is the****le of a new book by Bob McClurg and sent to me by one of my all time favorite heroes - Steve Hendrickson. I'm pretty shy about recommending books, but this one is an all time great. If you have any kind of passion for vintage drag racing, this one is a must have. Great writing, amazing stories, and awesome photography I believe you can get is here: http://www.cartechbooks.com
I saw it at B&N. But my broke**** could only afford one book, so I got Super Stock instead. Thanks for the tip on Amazon though, it's like $15 cheaper! Jay
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC BOOK!!!! a car my dad used to own is in there, and lots of the cars i remember from my youth and the era just preceding!! a real photographic history lesson on how it all went down in the glory days of drag racing.
Yeah, I was actually really tickled to find a picture of a car that I actually got my s/c liscense in as well as a few others I had either raced against or seen... Course, I was involved with these cars way after their prime but still cool to see...
Glad you guys enjoyed it. It's a fun day at work when a box of photos arrives from a guy like McClurg and you get paid to sift through them and make a book out of it. And this Monday I got calls from Garlits and Ivo on the same day, which doesn't happen to many guys! We've got some other cool stuff coming up too -- the Garlits Collection covers the 25 most significant cars in that museum, with new shots of the restored cars and vintage pics from the day. It should be out in July. Also talking to another big-deal photog about several books down the road. There's another one on hot rods by Ken Gross and Robert Genat -- the 25 most influential hot rods of all time, new and vintage pics. Watch for that in the fall. later. Steve.
I'm sure it's been covered on the HAMB, but if you are ever near Florida go to Garlits' museum. The man never threw anything away, and it's all on display with labels. He has Smokey Yunick's original dyno set up in the engine room. I can't wait for the new book and will look for the diggers, gassers, etc. also.
Stepped into Barnes and Noble tonight and found a copy...it's a NICE book, tons and tons of pictures, I was mesmerized. Didn't buy it, but I will soon.
