I think they are digging up the time capsule tomorrow. I have been searching the HAMB for other threads and I cant find anything. I know it has been talked about here though..I just got this in the mail and thought it was way cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2cPBl6scJk&mode=related&search It was burriied June 16 1957. Tomorrow will be 50 years. Anyone have anymore info.
The car was buried June 15, 1957. Don't go to Tulsa tomorrow, or you will have a little wait. Next Friday. Stu
Detriot is in the future, haha! That sounds cool someone needs to get some coverage on that and post it up.
The person who made the closest guess to what Tulsa's population would be in 2007 wins the car. If that person is dead, the nearest kin gets it.
Yes that sound right, I have been following what I can in the news and on line, I think I remember reading that now. I think it will be a way cool event, so next week right
You had me running all over the house!!! My bills are over due!!! Damn don't to that to this old man!
Sorry Tommy, I don't know what I was thinking But that remindes me I have some bills I better pay now
From that video it looks like they were spraying the gunite right over the plastic or whatever was covering the car, Might be hard to chip out of a block of gunite??
I've heard that you have to buy a ticket to get anywhere close to see when they dig it up. I hope they don't tear it up getting it out of there.
Only a small crowd (about 450) at the actual site. I've heard that goup is by invitation only. I have tickets to the unvailing in the Civic Center (a block away), just don't know what the whole scene will be like. Probably a mob of people though. Probably just crazy. J.
I heard a rumor from my girlfriends dads stepsister-in-law's cousins barber that the car is no longer in the tomb. Was stolen by some guy wearing a black t-shirt that said HAMB on the back. The cops never did find the guy, but they are certain that the local sandwich shop owner did it. Here's a photo of how the car looks now
Only certain people will be allowed at the unearthing. From what I understand it is limited to sponsers, dignitaries, alumna and press. I am lucky enough to have a spot there simply because my boyfriend works for Tulsa County as the Fleet Supervisor and is included as one of the people able to be there. I don't know yet if we will be there on the ground or if we will possibly be on the roof of the courthouse. I plan on taking as many pictures as possible and will also try to get a video camera if possible. I will get the daughter to show me how to post pictures after the event. Just for the record, they are NOT selling tickets to the actual unearthing, only to the unveiling later in the evening at the convention center. I think most likely the car will be brought out of the ground with the plastic still on the car and then put on the trailer like it is still covered and taken to a location to be evaluated by Boyd and his crew. I am still trying to talk the boyfriend into convincing his boss who is part of the committee that he should be in on the evaluation. The only problem with that is that he doesn't like his boss and is stubborn and won't ask to be a part of it. He just doesn't realize he could be a big part of history if only he would suck it up. He doesn't realize that I want to right in the big middle of everything! Because it's all about me, you know!
Just an FYI for all of y'all who don't live here in Tulsa and are interested in seeing the car unveiling. Channel 6 announced that they will be streaming live feed on their website KOTV.com Friday evening at 7:00p.m. If you want to watch it I would be trying to log on earlier than that though, because I thought I read that the actual unveiling is at 6:30, plus if there are a lot people trying to log on the server might be too busy. I would log onto the site by 6:00 CST.
I hear they're digging it up under a tent, so nobody sees it until it's detailed and put on display at a different location. Do i hear switcharoo? DUMB! I wanna see it as it comes out of it's tomb
I just really don't think that they would put it under a tent. At least I haven't heard that. I believe it will be going straight from the dig site to the convention center which is only a block away. I'm not sure, but I think Boyd and his crew will only be evaluating it and maybe to see if they can make it run. I don't think the committee would allow any switches, for one there will be too many people at the actual dig site and it would create horrible press for them. People who were there 50 yrs. ago are invited back, so they'll also get a first hand look at the car before it's moved. I plan on taking as many pictures as I can at the site and will try to get them posted as soon as possible.
If it's the same crew Boyd had on his show when i saw it a couple years ago, that poor car will never run again
That's why I'm wanting my boyfriend to try to get in on the evaulation too. I'm thinking even if he won't ask to get in on the eval, I'm going to ask his boss, who's on the committee, if it's possible for Jim to be there. He's the fleet supervisor for Tulsa County and he definately knows cars. You would think they would want to take it out to the shop where they would have access to a lift and everything and not have to have a mobile shop.
