My gf got a nice digital camera - and by "nice", I mean one that provides easy-on-the-eyes resolutions, unlike her boyfriend's cheapo-Argus -, and thought I'd give it a test run, earlier today. Lately, I've been trying to complete the manifold swap while doing touch-up work on assorted body panels (mostly bottom edges of the doors, etc.). Some day you will see my project in a different location than Kevin's driveway. And it will rock. By now you've all had the chance to watch the damn seasons change around it...
The back-breaker; saw a picture in a recent Car Craft of a guy holding a SBC manifold with both hands, the width of which was pretty much his slender stomach. Even with two people, this one took several re-tries to get both cork strip-gaskets on either end to sit right, let alone lift it. Finally got it right. Yeah, it's cast iron. The next one'll be aluminum. Next time there'll be an affordable one when I'm shopping for it. Hella beefier than the 2-barrel it's replacing. For now, we'll see how the GT does, with the CARB (Holley 4160) from Plan 9 on it. A friend is offering a Mallory dual-point dizzy he doesn't need for cheap, am wondering if the Pertronix electronic ignition unit would work in it. Need to call them tomorrow...
The nearly done CARB; nuthin' to write home about (especially with my cam's cheap resolution), but this is almost done, thought Plan 9 would like to see it polished 'n painted. Now if I could only remember NOT to use gasket sealant, the job would get done quicker... Thanks again, man!
Inner fenders are out to be painted the same as the exterior (Burgundy). But man, I'm gonna miss that work space when they're back in. Been enjoying the convenience of steppin' in there, in the meanwhile.
The picture of the truck looks fine. It's perfectly acceptable for the Web. Why can't you get better results with close-ups? I need something that will allow me to create crisp images of small parts. Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
Also cleaned up the frame, primer, paint 'n new spring bushings before installing some rear traction bars. The stuff you do before the help (or UPS, depending) arrives.

[/ QUOTE ] Her Nikon's got a good tighten/widen feature, but for what I was taking pics of, didn't have much need for detail, that'll be the next thing I practice. Tried to get a tighter shot for these fenders, this is the other major half of this job that's been going on inside our lil' just-for-storage garage. Almost done with 'em. Cab work by day, fenders 'n bed by night (or wet weather).
No rust holes underneath, just lots of dimples 'n imperfections. Shoulda seen the mounds of old filler that was sanded off. Basically just alot of burnin' the midnight candle work.
Kinda weird to see those in the broad daylight, again. The bed box is nearly done. stripped, rust-neutralized and nearly %100 straightened out. Nuthin', compared to the fenders. All in the details, though.
My total workshop space; I'll keep this one around for when, later when I have REAL room, I can keep in mind what I started with. But it gets the job done, for now. Note the bench grinder in the back (to the right of the hanging shop light), bolted to an end table. Works for now. For now.
That's the tour for now. Hey, lucked out today in finding a co-worker that has an air-compressor and paint supplies (used to be pro bodywork guy, did an awesome number on his '54 Buick), we'll be re-primering much of the cab next week, the bed, rear fenders and assorted parts shortly after that. But man, that's gonna save me a big wad for the paint shop. Just had to share the glee. This project's been going on for WAY too long, can't wait to be done with it and cruisin'.
I like how you threw in that one pic that you took with YOUR camera, as a kind of Humboldt Cat Stained Glass photo-signature!
You know it. Not proud of it, but there you have it. At least you know who, in the relationship, has a better eye for cameras, even when its her first digi cam.
Dude, I just got my heap on the road after 2+ years of looking at it. It's great, you'll be so friggin' happy when your shit gets rolling. Kinda surreal actually DRIVING a project after that long. Looks good. Keep it up. -r
