If they are multi-range speakers (ie 6X9s with tweeters) I'd let the amp feed it directly. If its a little speaker say 5 1/4 or smaller you can get an inline filter that blocks the lows and will help keep the smaller speakers alive.

Another thing to note when trying to hide an amplifier... make sure it gets proper airflow. Heat will kill it in short order and if its gets too hot it will turn off on its own and restart once its cool. Very annoying.

And keep it right-side up. The housings have heat sinks built in and if you mount it upside down the heat will naturally rise and go through the internals and burn them up.

Another option... if you have to sink speakers in the doors or in a rear panel... maybe have the panel perforated in a cool pattern... flying eyeball... pinstripes... flames...

Something to consider when bundling is that woofer vibration can wreak havoc on amps, tuners, and changers. So put your gear in one spot, and your woofer in another. They make a sub that'd designed to fit inside a fullsize spare rim if those have an interior mounted spare.

Personally, with that front box, I'd use a QUALITY 4.5 or 5" component set, biggest that would fit. Then mount the tweeters down by the toeboard shooting across the car angled up. Would be easy to do without a bunch of hacking. Run 100 amplified watts thru those, with another hundy into a small sub in back, and that car would rock pretty hard.

    WOW-- Great advice everybody!!

I think I've got enough to jump into it now... I'll update one the components are going in.

All the posts are much appreciated!

To make sure your aiming the speaker in the right "general" direction... use a cheap laser pointer. When I installed components in a friends car I used a MDF ring to mount the midbass driver and tweeter too... but before installing I taped one of those laser pointers at a 90 degree to the ring and had my buddy sit in his seat and then I aimed for his head from the passenger side kickpanel... then I took a look at the ring and that was the angle I needed to mount the speaker(s) to for that side. Cut a couple wooden dowls to fit to 'capture' that angle, then repeated for the other side (he wanted all speakers aimed at the driver position). I then fiberglassed over the trim ring and dowels and wala! i wish I still had pics of those kickpanels, but they died with the last computer.

of course, he as a bit anal about his sound quality. most people would have just eyeballed it and called it good.
